37' Thomas for sale, prepped for conversion. Raleigh NC

Hey y'all,

We are shifting gears to a different project, we need something we can convert faster and get out on the road, as our baby is coming in March and we don't want to try to do a huge in-depth conversion with a roof raise and everything with a newborn. So we got ourselves a smaller high top bus and are letting go our big bus.

She's a 1999 Thomas Saf-T-Liner; CAT 3126/Allison MD3060. Bumper to bumper is 36' 8", with 31' 6" to the back of the drivers seat. Runs and drives no problem, and cruises at highway speeds. Unfortunately we didn't think to push a max speed and record it or anything. Two brand new batteries, and fresh fluids when we bought it. 199k miles, and the school district did the required 200k mile service right before they sold it. The tires have some life in them, but we had planned to replace them. I'll get a pic of them and add it when its light out.

Inside, we have prepped to do a roof raise. Seats and rear heater are removed (we still have the heater though if you want it), we had planned to re-route coolant lines under the body to the front heater, but it is currently disconnected. Wall and ceiling and all insulation have been removed. What little rust there was has been treated. We have also removed the rubber floor.

As you can see, she's a rear engine, with all the great potential that comes with that. Vast open areas underneath just begging for tool bays, snowboard compartments, propane tanks, you name it. Make her yours!

We have a bit over 5k in her right now, and a fair bit of sweat equity, so I'll open optimistically at $5,000. Babies aren't cheap, after all.

Well, let me know what you think, and don't hesitate to offer!

Aaron

Very interested. Out of curiosity, which school district did it come from, and did they happen to give you maintenance records with it?

Good morning Geminus, we bought from Guilford county, and we have records going back to 2015. Wish we had more but we didn’t think to ask for it at the time. :/

Nice looking bus at a very reasonable price.

I expect this one to sell quickly.

Good luck.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Steve, very nice to hear!

Btw, what part of the PNW are you from? I’m from Bellingham originally, planning to end up back in the area after our bus adventures.

I have lived all over the state. Was in Mt. Vernon for a while. Currently in Dayton. We are near the S.E. corner of the state.

I look forward to getting away when the bus is finished. I need to start spending Winters somewhere warm.

Looks like a great start. GLWS
Side note, what type of 'high top' bus did you get? Thats one of my biggest concerns once I start with mine.
Thanks

Sidney, we got an International wheelchair bus, it’s a big bigger than the standard short bus. 28’, and 6’6” tall inside. I believe the wheelchair busses are going to be taller in general, because the driver needs to move around in them a lot more.

Good luck!
