I found this one on cl close by me just wondering if these a good body's as well as the engine I think it's a 6.5 navstar I 1994 Diesel school bus

It's a 6.7L according to the data sticker, 190 hp @ 2600 rpm. The gauge cluster is notorious for being crap. If it starts, runs, and drives then you're ahead of the curve. $3K is steep for such a bus. Remember, right now it's a buyer's market. I bought my bus at auction with competition bidding me up for $2025, $2130 with tax. You should have some wiggle room to get the price down.

Definitely find some wiggle room. I bought my '03 3000RE for less than 2500 bucks, with the 7.3L T444E

I would definitely negotiate the price down I'm still hoping to find a newer bus with a bigger engine but the flat front busses are rare around here

They might be asking for a bit much, but it has the DT408, not the 6.7l you would see in Fords.. Is there really anything wrong with that? From my understanding, it was the replacement for the DT360. Similar power specs. It is based on the DT466, so shares many parts.

I don't think the price is outrageous. They used the DT408 for 2 or 3 years. It probably has an AT545 transmission. If it has a MT643 transmission, I would buy it in a heartbeat even for asking price. It has air brakes. If I read correctly, the miles are 125K. Rubber looks good. I don't know if this is in your backyard but traveling costs money. So does breaking down a thousand miles from home. Many buses at auction CAN NOT be driven before you buy. Taking time off from work costs money. So if you can knock off 500 bucks, awesome. If you can knock off more, you won the lottery. I've seen similar buses on CL for 5-6-7000 dollars.

The skoolie community tends to be on the cheap side. There is nothing wrong with that but they will buy a bus 1500 miles away with rust that you could put your fist through over buying a better bus 5 miles from their house for $500 more. Some have waited for years before finding a bus.

What's the punchline? Go look at the bus and check it out. If it fits your needs, buy it.

What's the second punchline? This is my opinion. If anyone finds fault with it, that's OK.

That bus looks like a decent start and I've seen folks pay WAY more than that for WAY less bus.
FWIW I have essentially the same bus but with a 466 and its a real dandy.

Thank ya'll so much for the info. All the stats and figures are nice but will it do 65 on the highway and clime a mountain. Honestly I've never driven in the mountains I don't realy know what it would take to clime a mountain

I wouldn't want to take one across the Rockies, but as long as its got the 643 Tranny, it should be ok on the east side of the country.

I chuckle when I watched that first video. You've got a blanket. That wasn't anything like my trip coming back home from Tennessee. I had the front door open along with every window in the bus. I thought about leaving the back door open but I didn't want any red flags. I was pouring water over my head and into my shoes to cool down. It was probably 125* inside the bus. That is one strike against AmTran/Genesis. The insulation sucks compared to my Bluebird All American.

DT408, air brakes, good rubber, and no rust--at $3K I don't think you can go wrong.

As far as speed and climbing ability, it all depends upon the rear gearing. If it has slow speed gears it won't slow down on any hill. If it has high speed gears it will slow down on hills. You need to remember it is only 190 HP. If you want to go fast and not slow down on hills you are going to need in excess of 300 HP.

Wow that's something you don't see every day

Thank for the input guys I think I'm going to hold out for one with a little mor power plus I realy want a RE. My goal is something that can survive a trip to rockey mountain national park as well as acadia np in Maine. I well keep searching.

If anyone has made one of these trips please let me know what your drive train
