Advice about a bus for Sale: '92 Senator

Hello! I have been looking for a bus for a couple of months and I found this one. It was used as a school bus for several years, and then as a fire bus. It has been sitting outside for 2 years and it hasn't been serviced in that time. It has 206xxx miles, has a Blue Bird chassis, 6 cylinder Cummins and an Allison engine. I took several pictures and I was concerned about some rust, but I'm not sure if this is just superficial rust or the type that would make it a bad purchase. They are asking $2500. If you could help me out by telling me if this is a good buy or not for converting into a skoolie! Thank you so very very much for all of your help!

Seems to be in good shape for a 92. As long as it runs and drives good. That one inner lug nut sticking out like that concerns me a little, but maybe it's just longer. Looks like tires will need replaced in the near future.

What you have there is a BB tc2000 with a 5.9 6BTA engine and an AT545 transmission. it's a generation older than mine but they are largely comparable. I'd guess it at 35 ft. I like the storage cabinets on the side, those are gold. It should have an hour meter on the dashboard, and there should be a second info placard above the windshield that includes the rear axle ratio. Looks like no air conditioning which I consider a required feature myself.

The rust situation isn't bad but I'd treat the chassis first thing. You can pour Ospho in a spray bottle and just roll around under the bus spraying anything that isn't grey. i've seen what happens to these things if you let them go and it isn't pretty!

Price is in the ballpark. I'd pay a few extra dollars for a bus with storage cabinets.

Ha, I didn't even notice they called it a Senator. The title got truncated on my phone. 100% this is not a Senator.. Doesn't mean it's not a good bus.

Probably well maintained by the fire department. It's a Cummins engine and an Allison transmission.

Looks just like the 97 BB I just bought. Except I paid 5500 for mine 🤢. But she's runs great. You're gonna love the under storage. It's hard to find cheap flat nose buses like this where I live. And traveling to get one and bring it back adds too much to the price. So, I'm happy to have the bus I have at the price I paid all things considered.

You only get around 5 minutes to edit, then the option goes away. When you can edit, you need to do an advanced edit to change the title.
