That would be ideal. I think at the price I paid, even if it takes a couple grand, it's got a good motor with great mileage, it's got the headroom I want, and it's the size I was looking for before I started worrying about a class b license, and I think it's still a good price

I see you are in Texas so yeah, you need the Non-Commercial Class B.

What is the process like? Is it difficult, or expensive?

It occured to me that the person who inspected the bus MAY have been unaware of what the low air alarm is and simply did not give the bus time to build air and silence the alarm?

One can hope.

Good luck!!

From what I understand, I'll get a commercial learners permit first, so I can practice with a driver, then it's written and driving test. Not 100% sure on fees

So it looks like they only made this bus with at545 or mt643 paired with the dt466, so could be either one. Can anyone tell by the blurry picture on listing?

Edit - it seems like R N D 3 2 1 to me (can't make out the actual characters, just counting smudges and notice a gap between what looks like the last 2

RND321 is what they use on AT545, not sure if it's different for MT643.

Congrats man! I know mine beeps and beeps until I release the parking brake. So it could be a switch of some sort, not signaling that the parking brake is released.

this bus definitely is NOT an allison 2000 as that trans wasnt released until the mid-late 99 model year.. low-spec DT466E's were paired with AT545s all the time.. you wont have the power that a DT466 has to offer on the higher spec models.. its likely a 185 HP variant of the 466. not a bad thing but wont be the usual 466 powerhouse.. you can swap to a 643. like john bloem did. and make a big difference.. since the MD3060 was offered in that year, this bus will have the J1939 Link connector if you should decide to swap to an allison 2000 at some point. and maybe you will be lucky enough to have a 643..

I second the thought like PNW mentions in which the tester just didnt let the bus run long enough to pump the air system up.. my carpenter bus takes a while since it also has to fill up a rear air suspension,.,. this bus may have the same thing (no way to know).. and 5 minutes or so isnt out of the question which is likely longer than they sat in it with the engine on..

Yea, I found out about this transmissions around 2am when I finallygot off work and had time to do some digging. I'm gonna hope for the mt643, but I'll work with the at545 if that's what it's got.....til it needs to be replaced, then a swap for sure.

That would be cool if it did have air suspension too, and y all are making me feel less worried about the beep now so that's good! Lol. Still no way to know for sure til I pick her up, but if it's something bad, I knew I was taking a risk buying sight unseen so I'm prepared for some work.

I got the storage figured out last night, called the local rv storage 1 mile from the house and they will let me store a bus there, so my bus will be a 2 minute drive from me!!

Gonna call school on Monday to set up all details, get insurance and temp tags figured out, then but my plane ticket to fly out on friday!

Edit- I saw that in 1998 they offered the mechanical dt466 and the dt466e, is there an easy way to tell which this is from vin?

You can call International and give them I think the last 8 digits of the VIN and they can tell you what transmission is in it and which dt466 is in it. I called them to verify what trans was in mine before I bought it. I called the McKinney location.

That means we might be close in age if you rode it 16 years ago. I just turned 30 in november

I read on the forum that some of the early DT466E's sported DT466 badges.

I don't know first hand. Just something that I saw in another thread.

And I come from back when hippies were the bus drivers. There were ashtrays in buses then and it was allowed to smoke cigarettes if they weren't driving. Seatbelts happened in personal vehicles while I was in S Korea the first time. This is actually my first bus with any passenger seatbelts.

Technology rolls along.
