bus needed

we are currently looking for a bus, the larger the better, preffer with wheelchair lift and deisel or at least with wider doors for a lift to be added.
we'd concider a coach type , city bus or schoolbus as long as its large enough and for the right price
space is a concern as we will have a family traveling in it nearly year round, as well as a kitchen to provide free food iun underpriveledged areas.
any help with finding just the right bus would be appreciated

Do ya have any idea ???

There are lots of buses and kinds of buses. Since ya named yourself busfreak, you must know a lot about buses. What are ya wanting, very important is how much cash do ya have to buy. In this economy, money talks and BS walks. Do ya have $6000? Some real life decisions need to be made. There are many buses for sale, but in most cases, the purchase is of no consequence, the repair is the most costly. A bus usually does not become transformed from people transportation to home in any short time without money. Frank

Re: bus needed

well we were going to get one a real beauty for 6300 but dsome other expences delayed that lil too much and it was sold, we're also lookinmg into an irish double decker, but it comes with some conditions that wont really work for us (plkus parts are hard to find)
price is an issue right now, at least for the next couple months
weve looked at hundreds probably at this point and found a few that would work for us
3 of the best decided not to sell at the last minute

Re: bus needed

Old buses are not necessarily bad, but i'd be afraid of a bus that is 40 years old. Brake lines, drive line components, etc would be of great concern to me.

Good deals are out there. I just bought a full size bus from the mid 90's with only 67K miles on it for $2K with a cummins 5.9 diesel engine and allison auto trans.

There are lots of buses out there only 10 or 15 years old for a couple thousand dollars.

I think there are a lot fewer problems to be had with a newer bus, and i would guess that parts are easier to find when needed.

not trying to discourage you, just giving you something to think about.

Re: bus needed

odviosly thats true
but the maintanance put into this one was imaculate, the engines got low miliage the guy im buying froms a busmechanic who wants alittle extra time to double check everything make sure everythings in the best shape possible before we pick ity up.
theres only been 2 known issues, a leak in air lines since repaired and a noisy fan
the fan was a variable speed fan that was re-rigged to be a constant speed for better cooling and while rigging it it got a noise to it
just the conversions and modifications done to it would probably be about the price were paying for it.
the body is in really good shape concidering the age
we looked at several newer buses, even retired city or airport shuttles and none seemed to be as good a deal
also i know many many people with buses from 40 and 41 still on the road rolling strong
(ive even seen a 41 bus blow an engine, find a new one in 10 minutes flat and have it installed free by the next morning)

we havent made a final desicion yet but we are hoping to have a decent deisel mechanic (a freind) take a look at it inthe next day or 2 befoee we decide for sure
