Bus Seats

Hey, I have about 8-10 (I'm not home to count) bus seats for $free.99.

One has been outside for a year but all others are in great shape, a little dirty on the side that rubs the wall of the bus. All are bench style with no seatbelts.

I also have interior panels and 1 or 2 none-some damage L tracks. The rest I showed no mercy.

Its all junk to me and will be tossed by late February...I might try to take the tracks to the $crap yard.

I've been wondering if used bus seats have any value at all to anyone other than the scrap value? I would almost think I'd have to pay someone to haul them off.

I lucked out this time. The bus I bought had all but 2 benches removed before I got it. Nothing to toss, nothing to struggle removing!
On that note, I'd think there are far more people who want seats gone than those who want seats.

The best I was able to do with the seats out of two buses was to convince the local scrap yard to let me drop them off for free.

I tried offering them for free on CL and got no takers. Just a bunch of CL flakes wasting my time.

Hopefully you have better luck with it than I did

Nobody wants the seats. They are hard to give away. At the same time have you ever tried to buy bus seats or more accurately price them? I know you can get them for free, but if you had to buy them...

What are the dimensions of the metal frame for the seats? The reason I ask is could any of the frame be repurposed for the uprights if doing a roof raise?

I've only heard of people buying seats as an upgrade to what's already in the bus. A company I know of bought some of the bench seats with the built-in booster seat and 5pt harness (flips down from the back cushion) and they were over $1500 per bench!

That must have been new price. They sell used child booster bench seats on ebay for one or two hundred per seat.

Yes, new. There's a liability concern with putting in used seats for this company. I suppose the concern is understandable. They are using the school busses as... School busses.

I dunno, I measured the distance from the wall at about 33 inches but that's the seat cushion not the frame. I would think it would be a lot of extra to use the-why yes it would be perfect for your roof raise when can you pick them up? lol

Floor to bottom of the cushion is 12"...
Most roof lifts are 12"...

There are two heights in bus seats. Low and really low.

I'd hesitate to say most lifts are 12".
Most of the ones I've seen are 16+.

You really want something that fits like a glove when raising a roof. Using small tubes of steel wouldn't be ideal. Bluebirds can use 1 1/4 sq tubing. IC/AmTran need custom bent channel.

I only did a 10" lift on that Ward I had.
I think a minimal lift, like the coach folks do is the best at least for looks.

If I ever raise another bus roof, I'd probably just go 8".

Seems like a lot of folks go huge with a couple feet of lift. Looks doofy to me, and doesn't help with the handling, mpg's or any of that.
