Converted Short Bus for Sale

I'm selling my 1999 International 3800! I've had some good times with this baby, but situations change, and now I'm ready to sell it and move on to other things.

This is a shorter bus – stated as 36 passenger, length is roughly 22 feet.

The bus is fully converted into a living space. It has both solar and shore power options.

I purchased the bus from the Beaufort County (North Carolina) school system, so it was well maintained during its service there.

The school system provided me with all maintenance documents related to this bus; prospective buyers are free to peruse them. Documentation can also be provided for any repairs I've had done.

Bus was bought summer 2017. Conversion took roughly a year.

Bus is registered as a “house car” in North Carolina. This means the bus requires an annual state vehicle inspection. You do not need a CDL to drive the bus, nor do you have to worry about a federal inspection.

Interior living area is insulated with spray foam! Yes, this includes floor, ceiling, all walls, as well as both custom doors!

A detailed overview of this snazzy lil fellow follows:

Initial Stripping-Down
– All seats removed, plastic flooring removed
– Original metal flooring looked excellent. Was painted with several coats of Rustoleum for added durability
– Original ceiling panels and insulation removed
– Original wall panels removed

Mechanical, etc.
– Engine – DT466E
– Transmission – automatic, Allison transmission (new transmission installed by school system at 210,000 miles)
– New radiator installed in late 2017
– New Falken tires on front
– New water pump installed in 2018
– Mileage – 224,XXX
– Note: the bus does NOT have cruise control, nor can it be installed. The cruise control buttons are generic. Also note that the bus tops out at around 50 MPH (2500 RPM). I've been told that the back end/gear ratios will need to be redone/tweaked if the new owner wants added speed.

Driver's Compartment
– Driver's seat replaced with a new one from Tractor Supply Co.

Entry/Exit
– Security features installed for overhead emergency hatch and all doors.
– All windows (besides emergency windows) have been screwed shut and spray foamed
– Two custom-made doors, one connected to back wall, one connected to front wall

Living Area, General Interior Info
– Sturdy wall and door separates driver's compartment from living space
– Wall and shelves built along back part of bus
– Flooring – 1x4 base, insulated with spray foam, then covered with plywood.
– Ceiling – thin plywood attached to wooden blocks; blocks screwed into metal ribs of ceiling.
– Bed frame designed for twin bed
– Desk for computer, TV, etc. Desk height designed so a standard office chair fits comfortably underneath
– Cabinets over passenger side wheel well
– Several other shelves/storage options

Solar Power
– Three (3) 150 watt Renogy solar panels – 450 watts total
– Panels are mounted on brackets that have been through-bolted into roof of bus, and covered with Dicor lap sealant
– Panels can be tilted
– Individual DC lines converge on waterproof junction box on roof
– Charge Controller – Morningstar TS-MPPT-45 Tristar
– Inverter – Magnum CSW2012 2000 watt pure sine inverter
– Battery Monitor – Trimetric
– Batteries – Lifeline GPL-31XT (AGM) – 2 @ 125 amp-hours, for 250 amp-hours total
– AC current – Square D breaker box with four breakers currently installed
– For safety, the system has three breakers (not including breakers in Square D box): one 50 amp breaker between rooftop junction box and charge controller, one 50 amp breaker between charge controller and batteries, and one 300 amp breaker between batteries and inverter

Interior Electric
– Two overhead LED lights
– One flexible LED light attached to wall
– Outlets throughout bus
– all wiring wrapped in white plastic conduit and attached to wall
– smoke detector/carbon monoxide monitor installed

Exterior
– Bus sides painted with several coats of Rustoleum oil-based gloss paint
– Bus roof painted with a product called Snow Roof (not recommended; have been touching up with various other easier-to-use brands)
– Sheet metal attached to sides with thick self-drilling screws to cover closed windows

Various
– Custom-made screens (no-see-um mesh) for windows and back door
– Custom-made insulation panels for windows and emergency hatch
– Indoor/outdoor temperature and humidity monitor
– I'll throw in various other items if buyer is interested, including bed and boxspring, fridge, portable sink, etc.

Asking Price: $20,000

Serious inquiries only. Willing to negotiate, but only in person after bus has been viewed by prospective buyer. Bus is located in Eastern NC.
