Re: Cool School
I'm curious what the drivetrain was on that thing. It said it came from a 4wd F700 so certainly it was up to the task. I'm thinking divorced transfer case made by Rockwell International perhaps? The front axle would most likely be an Marmon Herrington unit although Spicer has made big front axles like that as well. I do believe they were fulltime axles though so that means a lot of wear and tear on parts, even if the t-case is in 2wd.
I'm also curious about the tires. The pictures weren't close enough to get a cool look, but I'm hoping they were Michelin XML tires or similar. If they were 46 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Claws I would be very scared of the load capacity. Funny that it only had 46's since stock tires were 42's. I probably would have tried to find a way to stuff some 52 inch XML's under there. The sick part is that XML's can be bought relatively cheap as take offs or surplus from the military.
I'd love to do a 4wd bus someday, but....muh....it's been done. Maybe a shorty so it is actually useful...something along the lines of a Pathfinder or Sportsmobile...
