I’m interested to see pictures of the various parts of it. Compressors , condensers, evaporators … etc

Hey Cadillac,

My issue with the system is the bulk and noise of the auxiliary Yanmar.

Ideally I’d like to keep half of the system for road air but remove the Yanmar from the equation and run air off of the Drive engine.

Do you help with redesigns?

If that’s possible and you could assist I’d be willing to give you the remaining pieces including the Yanmar if you’d be interested.

Kindly,
Daniel

i think you would have to move the A/C from the YANMAR to under the hood to the motor add the correct motor pulley to accept another belt for A/C and find the brackets to mount the compressor there and redirect all the lines and wiring to the new location.
how much do you want for the yanmar as installed?
i know you said package deal which i dont need?
then you said your problem really is the noise from the APU/yanmar.
there are ways to quiet it down and really depends on the noises that you dont like?
exhaust?
vibration?
overall?

im guessing gasoline since the button says "choke"?

jolly roger has it right you can move one compressor over to the engine (im assuming DT466E?) and run it off the engine.. this is assuming its truly 2 separate systems which it appears to be from the pics... it would essentially be obtaining a bracket kit (Trans/AIR used bracketry systems) and then lengthening / shortening the lines as required..

those systems are definitely noisy.. Ive worked on them before..

roger - they were offered in both gas and diesel.. the diesel units were considerably more expensive new so some buyers opted for a separate Tank and fuel to run it.. the powerpack was offered by TransAIR however its not a TransAIR part number.. they were just an option for those that wanted to run A/C without idling.. this was something i saw in California and new york where small engines were allowed to idle but not big ones so a bus could be kept cool idling without its big engine turned on.. some of those regulations have changed over the years after a couple truckers were near killed because they couldnt idle in extreme weather

this type of system has been around for decades.. its what I would use to AIr-condition the full bus of my Vintage Superior as thats how it was done on gas engin e busses back in the day..

since the PowerPack is separate the biggest issue would come about if the TransAIR systerms run on 24 volts... PowerPacks could produce 12 and 24 volts and the A/C was available in both.. your school bus runs on a 12 volt system.. if your A/C systems are 12 volt then keeping one is pretty easy... otherwise you would need to generate 24 volts somehow.. (2nd alternator.. or a 12-24 VDC voltage booster that can take some serious Amperage)...

since TransAIR is still in business you can contact them with your VIN and get more info on your system.. they wont help converting it however you can find out how its all set up.. ie type of compressors used, BTU ratings, Voltages etc...

if its gas then i would ponder a trip to new york for the right price.
as of now he dont want to separate but i think he can if he has the mechanical ability to make the rest work.
i have a man that works for me from that area and was a heavy equipment mechanic there that would have no issue with going to pull it gracefully and lable each wire for its terminal.

It’s diesel, not gas.
Feeds from main fuel tank.

That’s definitely a nice setup! Is it 12 volt? If so then it’s not going to be too bad to keep your front system (I’m guessing the front one is the bulkhead unit?) the bulkhead inside units are the ones you want as they are less intrusive to a conversion

with all these questions and your system you have been given options on how to redirect and keep your system and lose the genny or APU whatever you want to call it.
as much as i want just it?
there are ways to quiet it down?
the interior units are what they are.
you can quiet that yanmar down if you want to and have the skill.
vibration from it is a different story? and it should already have its own vibration isolation? might be wore out and not showing it but yeah it happens.
if its on spring hangers then they are wore slam out and probably broke. just like overloaded suspension

I’m going to reach out to TransAir and get all the specifics and research the ins and outs of running one single unit off the engine.
My goal is to lose the Yanmar and free up the space and lose the noise/vibrations.
That being said I’d be open to offers on the Yanmar unless Cadillac is interested in my previous offer.

I am not sure why you want to get rid of a unique system like that..I am trying to build about what you have and am installing a diesel engine.
There is no substitute or alternative for a system like you have.

In my layout I have space for an electric motor besides the diesel that can run the ac compressor instead of the diesel but that only works when you have electric available.

Anyhow, good luck.
