For sale 1997 Am Tran Genies 40 Foot Flat Nose School Bus Dt 466 mechanical
I just recently bought a 40 ft Trans Am Genisis school bus in CO. I drove it back to Norther NY and only had to swap out the thermostat. Other than that it ran like a top the whole way.
It has a DT 466 mechanical injection engine high torque model, a Alison MT 643 automatic transmission
Before I left Colorado I put 2 brand new steering tires on the front and 4 brand new retreads on the back. All Goodyear tires
It is also equipped with a electro magnetic retarder, and air brakes both in great condition as well as new batteries.
The bus is in great mechanical condition and no rust besides the surface rust that would be normal on a 22 year old bus. I bought it off a school district. I have all the service records for it from when it was in operation as well as a full diagnostic report of the condition of the bus I got done by a 3rd party shop in Colorado.
I have replaced all the fluids except the Trany fluid. But my entire trip from CO the Trany never got hot.
The bus is a handicap bus so it comes with a 800lbs lift that I planned on retrofitting as a motorcycle lift.
All the seats have been taken out.
I am looking to get what I have in it at about 8k but I am willing to negotiate with the right person who will love and take care of much as do.
If you are in the north east this is a great opportunity to scoop a rust free bus from the west at a honest price.

Highly unlikely, 240k would be average for that bus. Most likely had a speedo replacement. $8k seems a bit steep, I paid $3500 for a 1999, same model.

I bought it straight from the school district it definitely hasn't had a speedometer replacement. And I have All the work orders from when the school district purchased it to prove it. It was a route bus and didn't get used super often. And the tires alone are worth 2500.

Dry CO bus with a proven drivetrain & good rubber. Seems like an honest price, in today's market. Nobody's getting rich on this one. A NYer would save a grand on transport fuel, not including travel expenses.
Documented, low mileage will provide a strong feeling of security for the privileged buyer. Hours?
Looks like 78" ceilings. More pics might motivate a sale. That is a well selected platform.

Telma? Brake retarder on a clean well serviced Colorado bus adds a whole lot of value in my books to a potential skoolie platform. You might not need it in New York but if you're planning on some mountain driving with a heavy bus build that retarder would be a damn nice feature to have.
Good luck with your sale.

Agreed it sounds like a nice bus. Our Colorado bus has the same drivetrain, air brakes and a Klam electromagnetic retarder, which was a godsend in the mountains and IMO is definitely worth a little extra in price. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the brakes, even on the flat lands. Hard to find a bus like that in the NE too. Good luck with your sale.
