I've spoken to a few school boards and auction employees.
Turns out with schoolies there are a ton of shill bidders and the bus I bought had been auctioned twice previously. The lady in Ky told me the guy never called or paid after winning the last auction.

Last one I saw from that district went for like 1800 or so.
There are several folks on this forum who would pay a *dealer* 5k or more for this same bus.
If it weren't so bloody far to Maryland I'd bid on up to 2500 or so just for sport.

GovDeals goes after fraudulent bidding much harder than Public Surplus does. That may be why the district switched auction sites.

Last summer they were auctioning on both sites simultaneously. This just sold in NJ this morning http://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa...232&itemid=151
It went up $1600 in the last 30 minutes plus $190 in fees. That's a lot of money for something with the description of "runs"...

That's about the description mine had.
The school personnel are very hesitant to put much of a guarantee of any kind. Often the ads are placed by clerical workers who know next to nothing about the buses. Most of them answer pertinent questions if you call. The sweet little lady in Todd County Ky went above and beyond to answer my questions and help me out any way she could. She even made me coffee when I got there!

I totally understand. They are limiting their liability. But there are buses with fewer miles for less money on Craigslist. I buy lots of auction vehicles. But I will not buy a bus at auction unless I get to inspect it or get to speak with an unbiased mechanic.
Public Surplus requires Lots of bidder deposits. This causes all their auctions to sit at $500 until the last day because no one wants to deal with it. I have had nothing but good experiences with govdeals.

I couldn't find a diesel pusher school bus on CL or Ebay for less than 5k.
Well it just ended. My 2500 sport bid would have won me this bus. went for 2600 with the fee for the auctioneer. God. Damn it. I wish Maryland weren't so far.
Congrats to the lucky winner, enjoy doubling or tripling your money, sir or mam.

Yeah, I'm gonna go for one of these as soon as I make a friend in Md who can pick me up at an airport or bus station.
I could drive one of these back here to Fl and sell it for at least 4k on ebay or cl.
That would help to fund my Senator.

I like this one A LOT. If it were in towable distance, I'd buy it and have it towed to me. http://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa...192&acctid=685

With the tow and repair, you'd probably still come out ahead of paying 5-10k.
Too bad it isn't a runner, I'd have put in a bid for sport by now. Buses like this are getting tougher to find. That 8.3 is awesome too.
