FS: 2000 Int'l Amtran RE DT530e/MD3060 (Central FL)

Hello, long-time lurker and first time poster, unfortunately, it's to sell our bus. I was diagnosed with some bad funk last year and our ability to convert is no longer possible. Instead of staring at it, it's time to let another family continue the adventure.

We purchased this bus about a year ago from a bus dealer in FL. Well maintained out of Arizona schools. Bus is in general great shape and we hunted awhile for this particular bus build (530e/3060+air ride). This bus has a ton of power, hauls fast and rides smooth.

This bus is in Central, FL near I-75.

- Bus interior has been stripped, seats, floor and ceiling panels.
- Windows are still in it.
- Front heater hoses remapped beneath bus, defrosters work.
- Metal floor exposed and great shape, even around wheels.
- For the most part, bus is ready for building unless you're removing windows.

The bus..
- 2000 International Amtran Rear Engine
- 213k miles, 13k running hours
- DT530e Engine (yes, a 530e monster)
- Allison MD3060 Trans, the 6 speed variety
- Air ride suspension
- Air ride driver's seat
- Air front door
- Dual pass-thru underbelly storage
- 100+ tank (measures to 120g)

In the pics..
- There's a few boards, metal sheets and pieces removed we kept still onboard.
- Interlock bypassed and most unrelated wiring removed.
- Main console is removed but still on bus.
- There's a 40'-43' motorhome cover in there, never used.

Super solid bus for a conversion. Registered as motorhome. Bus rides great, no passenger seats, so its a probably a lonely trip home.

$7000

Bump for a nice looking bus. She's a biggun', but plenty of room for a family sized conversion.

Probably a no as it came from a dealer, but are there any maintenance records for it?

Sorry to hear of your change of plans for it, but someone will likely grab it up at that fairly reasonable price.

Good luck on your sale...

Thanks for the bump. I do not have any service records for the bus.

For all you lurkers and newbies out there, this bus is exactly the kind of thing you want:
-no rust
-no mechanical issues, in running order
-stripped and clean, ready for the fun work

So many posts recently about crap buses, rusty, broken, dodgy issues. Save your money; don't just spring for something cheap and assume you can work through it.

I'm not necessarily promoting this particular bus, just pointing out that when you take your time, do some research and save your cash you can get in to a kickass buggy with a short runway to fun instead of a years-long project vehicle that just sits in the drive (or rental spot, burning your cash).

Would you consider selling the RV cover separately?

Thanks for the words, @Rucker!

...

I got a "few" questions in DMs, thought it was good to answer here.

- Bus is on private property near exit 341 on I-75 near Ocala, FL.

- I will consider partial trades, must be mostly cash. (tools/off-road, no road vehicles)

- I believe head height is 78" (plus another inch since floorboards are removed). I'm 6'2" and stand inside just fine.

- The rust on the floor in the picture is light surface rust, nothing structural or needing replaced. In fact, we never found any serious rust anywhere on the bus. I'll upload pics of the full floor in a few days.

- It does not leak and is sealed rather well. With some very hard rains, we see a bit of water in the bottom door's step (kinda normal).

- Main console removed = just the plastic shell of the console. The switches are loosely tied in the console area and don't interfere with driving ability or safety. Bus is fully operational.

- Windows are lightly tinted.

- The bus is a true 40'. Interior building wise, from back of driver's seat to the window, there's about 33' of floor space and 8 feet wide. Front of the rear engine cabinet protrudes 5' from rear window (measured straight out). This cabinet is only a few inches larger than the DT466. The rear V-cavity does fit the queen size bed design.

I was also asked why this bus. Our mindset behind it was getting a bus that had the luxury bits we wanted and also how we intended to use it (full-time living). We knew that we aren't going to add air-ride down the road.. upfront or bust. We went with the DT530e because its an engine that's so overkill for a bus that you barely use its capability, thus, piling on building weight and all our toys wouldn't stress a weaker engine. Trans wise, never seen a dt530e with a diff trans. Air-ride, under belly storage and rear engine are those luxury comforts. We've rode in long hauls in dog noses and REs and highly preferred how quiet REs are when on the road and trying to talk with the driver.

Hope that helps.

I would but not at the moment. I'd like to keep it with the bus since I originally offered it as such. Bump thread in a few weeks and if the bus is still here, sure.. shipping might be an arm and a leg, tho. It's pretty heavy duty and bulky.

Well, keep me in mind. I go down to Daytona every winter and I've been meaning to visit Gainesville again for a while now so I could probably pick it up in Ocala.

Seeing how many much less desirable buses are being sold for more money, I completely agree with Rucker here. If I were in the market for another bus...especially one to keep for my own conversion and travels...I'd be looking hard at this one.

Just to try and be consistent, comments on for sale postings are not allowed, either positive or negative. we keep comments to the non-affilianted thread.
so to be fair in comments, this is a 40ft bus, i would not take a 40ft if it was free, horrible horrible choice for a motorhome that is actually used instead of just parked.

Ambitious asking price, though the pre 04 buses are getting a bit scarce.

Is the 6 speed variety open in 6th?
Registered as an RV, but not converted. Insurance will be a biatch buying.

I'm not 100% certain if the 6th gear is actually unlocked or not. Not sure how to tell without doing 100+ mph on the highway.

Insurance wise, we currently pay $40usd a month to Allstate for full coverage (not parking coverage) in Florida.

If the 6th gear is enabled when you turn the key on the digital read out will say either 5 or 6 to tell you how many work.
If 6th were open, you would be able to do 100mph. I cruised a full tank of diesel at 85mph with my DT466 in 5th.

Same bus and drive train as mine and it's dream to drive. Never short on power.
