Getting a Used non-cdl School or Activity Bus

I'm not good at this yet.

I'm looking to get a 19-20' school bus or activity bus.

I don't know if one generally cost less than the other, which may have the lesser mileage, or one being more desirable than the other to have, etc.

I do hope you will share your thoughts.

I have seen others talk about auctions as the source to get a bus. I am starting to search, but don't really know where to start or the best process to follow.

My rough thoughts for what I'm looking for are...

Size...19-20'; Engine ... Gas;
Interior Height ...72"+;
Rear Wheels...Singles or Double with
preference for Single.
Cost... $8 - 15K
Years...2005-2012

I'm hopeful to find something within GA or CO but am open for a better way to purchase from wherever.

Thanks for kind responses.

There's also a fellow north of Atlanta that advertises on Craigslist, haven't actually dealt with him but did speak over the phone and he always has something coming and going, and seems willing to haggle.

What you're describing is basically about the least desirable type of bus made. You're looking at a 4 window Type A. Basically a van with a heavier shell on it.

Do you have hard requirements forcing you to go that route or are you backing yourself into a corner unnecessarily?

Single rear wheel Type A's are pretty rare in my experience and don't even have the width of a dually Type A. They're also already at their GVWR just sitting empty before any conversion weight is added.

As for your years preference I wouldn't buy anything newer than 2007 (if diesel).

Hi brokedown/Wlbluebird

I appreciate your time and response.

I have just started looking. I didn't know the limitations of the single rear wheel. I am sure only of the length. I want something that will fit in a normal size parking space.

I don't want diesel because I have no diesel repair or maintenance skills or knowledge. I do have some for a gas engine.

So both you and Wlbluebird's responses are helping.

I just hope I am doing this correctly and you both get my thankful response.

What I also noticed was commercial sellers sent me a vehicle for sale through this Skoolie forum. I'm still trying to understand how that happens.

Again thank you both.

I'm still educating and looking.
