Quality work, I would highly recommend to anyone doing a raise to buy now while you can. Prices are going up nationwide

Make sure to get enough C channel as well to connect both sides of the new hat channel to the old. Example below

EDIT: actually I would remove my image if I could (not sure how) 01marc's image is a much better example. Still highly recommend!

I recommend at least a 6" overlap.

I would go 6" each end, material cost may save a few dollars by going 3" and would maybe be sufficient.
