In need of DT466, 7.3L RE!

Hi everybody!

Im looking to buy a DT466, 8L or under (not a 5.9L), rear engine, about 72 passenger school bus under $4,000. I live in Savannah, GA. I keep on finding the perfect buses in auction and I watch the price rise and rise I found the perfect one on GovDeals.com but it will probably reach $5,000 plus. Can someone help me find a good site or a good bus for sale?

Thanks!

the DT-466 is great in an RE... but I hear people talk about the 7.3 (T-444E) being undersized in a full-size RE..although it is a reliable engine and was used in a lot of busses.. so you may want to look at the large cummins (8.2?) I know you mentioned 8L or under.. but sometimes you need big power....

the DT-466 is one of the most sought after engines.. esp by exporters... exporters snatch up a lot of busses in the south, as do dealers that sell to exporters..

the T-444E brings a lot less money it seems as it isnt often as beefy and is often mated to an AT545 transmission..

going to a dealer you will spend more than on an auction.. usually WAY more...

govdeals and publicsurplus seem to be the maion sites.. but my second bus came from a school system using a private auctioneer, so those pop up too and often show up in google searches.. you may have to drive a ways to get the bus you want.. sometimes a long trip.

What should I expect to spend for the bus I listed above? Is under $4,000 not reasonable?

I purchased my bus (with DT466) for $2,800. So I think it's definitely possible to find an RE bus for around $4,000.
