545's are a fact of life for most of the good shorties. Mine has one. It is what it is.
Hard to find a pre-2003 with anything other than a 545.

That NC bus looks great - is the age a consideration? How would you go about checking it out from a long distance away?

Something to thoroughly check on before considering a NC bus is the gearing. MANY NC buses are geared/governed for 45-50 mph.

The slow speeds aren't such a concern for me. NC is below the rust belt, too. How's that International 3700 model for dependability and repairability?
