looking for a bus to fulltime in around SC

My wife and I want to start full timing it in a school bus conversion, but we're having a hard time finding buses in this part of the country. Looking for converted, or just plain old school buses. I'd prefer one that's just started in the conversion process so I can lay it out how I want it, but I'm pretty flexible at this point. We live in Georgetown, SC. If you know anyone, or a good vendor to deal with, please let me know.

Re: looking for a bus to fulltime in around SC

govdeals.com has many buses listed from various parts of the country. There are some currently on there from GA, TN, NC, VA, and FL. The nice part with govdeals.com is that you can get the contact number and talk to to the bus mechanics that worked on them. Most of the ones I talked to would give you the details about the bus and its condition (they don't have a vested interest if the bus sells or not). They told me about the problems any of them had, rust issues, transmission types, rebuilds of any kind, and so on. I'm in NC and while searching for a bus I did notice that it was hard to find anything in SC (govdeals, craigslist, etc...). You might want to contact the bus garages of some of the surrounding school districts to see if they have anything and/or how they surplus thier buses down there. Also there is a bus dealer out of VA that we went and visited http://www.sonnymerryman.com/ they have ALOT of buses. Many were out of our price range but it was nice to be able to walk the buses, get measurements, and find what you like and don't like. The salesman is a nice guy there and was helpful, but he is a salesman. Another service you might want to try is searchtempest.com (there is a thread on here somewhere that someone shared), it will allow you to search craigslist postings with in some many miles of your location. Good luck with your search.

Here is a 1993 Thomas rear engine, high top, belly bins, looks pretty good by the pics, in Rock Hill, SC.

Re: looking for a bus to fulltime in around SC

I am considering selling my 1992 AmTran Genesis. She has a DT466, Allison MT645, 215217 miles. I painted her with Acrylic Urethane. One passenger seat remains (forward most passenger side), all others have been removed. Shelving has been installed (mostly Metro style/brand). I use this as my storage bus. Asking $5500. She (and I) live in LIttle River, SC. If this interests you, let me know. I may take the leap into a $20K(ish) base MCI for conversion.
...uh... that means eventually I'll also have my Wanderlodge to sell.

Bryan, I'm going to show my wife pictures of your bus when she gets home from work. Looks like a promising platform.
