looking for a P PUMP for cummins

alright long story short.
not a skoolie project but a school bus motor project if that helps.
my son has a DT 360 and we are getting rid of the A pump and changing to a P pump.
thought no big deal?
he found a pump off of a 466 and got it but according to the model number it is left hand rotation and his 360 need a right hand rotation.
so we have a P 3000 series pump if someone needs it and we are looking for a P 7100 series pump off of 5.9.
any help is appreciated

Motor rotation

The crankshaft doesn’t have to turn in a backwards direction for a fuel injection pump to run in a different direction. Depends how the gears that drive the pump are arranged.

The gm vdrive 6-71 like 4103 the engines run reverse rotation compared to “normal “ engines.

I think some of the cams in a p7100 can run either direction, but some cams run only one particular direction.

I have built reverse rotation Chevrolet v8 engines for use on oval tracks, but if you flip over or turn around some transmissions or axles. Then having an engine run “backwards “ will keep you from having a bunch of reverse gears and only one forward gear.

What magnakansas said.

Only engines I know that didn't turn clockwise when running were installed in pairs on boats and airplanes.

The reason you have cw and ccw pumps is dependent on the number of gears installed in the gear train. The 6bt and dt360 both have 3 gears which gives a cw turning pump. Was your dt466 an ngd model? I think DT466ngd has a high pump mount with 4 gears which gives a ccw turning pump, where as the normal dt466 with the low pump only had 3. But it's been a bit since I've dealt with any of this, so my memory might be hazy. Can't run a ccw pump in place of a cw pump because the cam lobe order will be wrong, giving you the wrong firing order. I also think the lobes aren't symmetrical either, so I don't know that I would even try.

I know some pump models had interchangeable cams based off of cw and ccw rotation. I'm not familiar enough with them to know which models do and don't. Talk to a pump shop and see what they say.

There is a great fb group dedicated to the mechanical Navistars. Some really smart folks and lots of spare parts for sale.
