Looking for a School Bus For Hire

Dear Skoolies,

I hope this isn't counted as spam. This is a legitimate request.

My name is Colin Gunn I am a producer of Christian documentaries. We have a project on the go right now that involves traveling around the US in a school bus.

We have looked into purchasing a bus but for the sake of the budget we are considering renting a bus for the duration of the filming.

We're looking to start shooting near the middle to the end of May and would need the bus for about a month.

The bus would need to be in reasonably good shape - we also might be wrapping or repainting it for the tour.

We are based in Waco, Texas so any buses in our area would be preferred.

The website about the movie is here:

Please contact me if you think you might have what I'm looking for.

Sincerely,

Colin Gunn

Re: Looking for a School Bus For Hire

Meh...it looks more legit than some guy in Africa trying to sell me new Nike shoes. However, I highly doubt you're going to be able to rent a bus cheaper than you can buy one outright. On of the biggest issues comes with insurance. Comprehensive and collision coverage for my bus is impractically high and there is no way I'd let someone else take it out without having at least that much coverage on it. And...that coverage is for an RV, not a bus. I doubt you are going to be traveling the country in a big yellow school bus as the site promotes because...well...it's not legal in most locales. On top of that, you're going to need COMMERCIAL insurance and COMMERCIAL registration with real COMMERCIAL law enforcement officers keeping tabs on you. Why do I emphasize COMMERCIAL so much? Because this is a COMMERCIAL enterprise and COMMERCIAL enterprises have some much much higher costs associated with them.

I'm not trying to poo-poo your idea and maybe you'll get lucky, but I AM trying to serve up a dose of reality.

Re: Looking for a School Bus For Hire

like timmy said, you will need someone with a commercial drivers license, they will need a log book, will be limited in driving hours a day, and you will need that commercial insurance and coverage. Not sure how it is in the USA but in Sask you can only have upto 13 people in a vehicle before it is considered a bus.

prob better off renting a passenger van and a U-haul.
