Still doesn't make sense.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. I wrote to the contact on that vehicle and he responded with this link and an explanation of how much money they get for permanently disabling these vehicles, as follows;

"This is done under EPA DERA rules, EPA will pay MUSD $465,000 ($20k-$25K per bus depending on GVWR) for the twenty buses we will be selling at auction over the next few months We also get to keep whatever we sell them for as scrap. If these vehicles were sold/traded as runnning vehicles we would get $2k-$5k each, so by drilling the blocks and cutting the frames MUSD makes hundreds of thousands more toward new buses and remove older polluting buses from service.

If you would like to learn more about thhis program check out this link."

They're chopping up the buses with the highest GVWR for maximum return.

probably trying to use their take on the program before trump kills it.. word is Manufacturers are lobbying HARD to get some of the clean-diesel stuff backed down or slowed down due to the issues.. and of course trump wants to all but dessimate any EPA-based programs out there...

High headroom shorty in the Tampa area, and for a realistic normal price.

Not even a dealer as far as I can tell!
Hard to find a bus on CL that isn't a tampa bus dealer.

Oricha, are you thinking about that size bus? Thought you were going with a Ford E3/450, or a smaller GM cut a way. I'm thinking your time line remains the same.

Hey 1olfart,
I thought it looked cool, so I decided to share it here.
I'm holding off on purchasing anything for now.

This is a one of five 1937 Studebaker COE's produced. It's an unfinished conversion. Like the bus, not the price.

I'll admit, that is a way cool looking bus. The interior build is even quite nice looking. It's just way out of my price range. Beyond that I'm trying to stay as modern as possible in an effort to reduce repair needs.

Didn't know it belonged to anyone here. I like the unusual buses. Saw one with a bread truck grafted on the front the other day. That's beyond my skill set.

That was my first thought, too.

Back when he started that thread that I linked to, I was like "man, I couldn't bring myself to cut up something as rare and cool as that thing is."
