yep engine issues on a HEUI engine may be easy or may be $$$$.. and at least one tire is flat..
also a big one.. I was thinking you wanted a smaller unit than even your previous van cutaway

That seller has a boatload of nice buses up for grabs, all listed at $1K. Makes you wonder what's up.

If you're local to the auction you could try to figure out what the mystery engine problem is. For most of us that will remain a mystery because of distance and risk.

ups. didnt read that...

Sometimes you can cut yourself a really nice deal on an item just like this if you happen to know what's really wrong with it. There's so many buses that I just bid on the ones they say they run well any more, unless it's a unicorn.

Those high roof windows are installed with the bottom of them at least 6" above the bottom of the driver's window. That thing has to have a 7' interior height.
If those end caps can be sourced from Blue Bird, those would be awesome to use for a roof raise!

For those interested in a Type 'C' bus that isn't full length, here is a nice WA spe'c bus that is 9-rows with a DT466 for a reasonable price.

Let me backtrack on that...
It would have a 7' interior height if the floor weren't also raised. It looks like the floor is higher than normal too, in order to eliminate the wheel well humps.
That's a pretty unusual rig.
I also just realized that because the extra height was added under the back door in the rear, only the front cap would be useful for a roof raise. The rear cap is just a standard high roof cap.

my guess is it is a standard 6'6" interior height.. but nice flat floors.. and likely a lot of nice basement space for conversion goodies..
after noting that several forum members have driven similar or lesser drivetrains over the rockies without issues im not bothered by the 5'9 / AT545.. to me the rust looks superficial.. since theyve already lowered the price once, it could likely be talked down further..
is it a dream bus? not by far.. but one id look at if I were doing a conversion bus.. it has Air-Conditioning too..

I definitely noticed the AC. That's something I'm working on for my bus. I'm watching some transit buses to hopefully buy one and rob the AC system and front and rear air suspensions out of for my bus.
The 5.9/545 combo wouldn't deter me except for it not being a sleeved engine, and the fact that I'm planning to have a pretty decent amount of weight at times. I've have my F650 at 27,000 lbs a handful of times, and the ISB does alright but definitely isn't going to win any races pushing that many tons around. I definitely wouldn't want to go any higher than that.
When I was searching for the right bus to buy, I narrowed the engines down to either an 8.3 or a DT466. For a rear engine, you can only get a DT in an AmTran. I could feel myself being a pedant, but I didn't like the look of the AmTran headlight/turn signal, so that left me looking for an 8.3.

A school district in Louisiana just listed a lot of buses with flood damage. Not sure why they're auctioning the buses instead of leaving it to the insurance company to liquidate the vehicles.

We sold a few wrecked vehicles (sheriff's patrol cars...) at auction as there was no insurance company involved.
