Getting pricey already. They're probably one of the last batches of really nice looking ones.
I REALLY wish I had a way to get one. But sadly I don't think its gona happen.

Second post here...wohoo ! I'm likely bidding on the low mileage 855 tandem axle (bus number 22).
Separately, according to the crown folks (there's a couple of FB groups) there's about 30 that should be going up for sale throughout Cali in January. The buses will be coming from districts that haven't managed to get CARB exemptions for their crowns.

hopefully they let those crowns be sold and the government doesnt swoop in with a trade-in and destroy program over the next couple months..
as for who asked about that 2004 emissions.. likely not bad at all.. if at all that DT-466 might have EGR but it wont have the full suite of emissions unless something was added for New york state. from what it seems, the add-ons were pretty separate and can be removed..
I question the 3060 in that shorty only because it has a mechanical shifter, I thought the 3060 required an electronic shifter.. but in 04 that bus should at least have a 2000, the 2004 spec DT-466E had too much torque for a 545..

I stopped-in the local bus barn in Illinois today, the Director told me they have been torching frames and drilling blocks per EPA mandates.

I hate this thread. It drives the price up on every bus I'm bidding on!

Well I was outbid this morning, probably for the best. Things starting to seem like it might be a rust bucket. For the 1500 I'd bid, I was willing to risk some possible rust repair. But the seller is refusing to show the underside of the bus at all and replied that the chassis is rusty.
I'll pass I reckon. Unless someone in NY wants to go look at it and snap some pics for me.
I really want a 466 shorty though.

Ok, cool. I'll ask em!
I though I'd been outbid, but I'm still high bidder.
I'm cool with it for the current price, but I'm not going to bid another cent.
Its got a killer drivetrain, but I'll likely spend a year fixing all the rust underneath. And I bet the floor is rotten under that plywood.

I called them, but they were a little less than friendly.
I was told all questions must be posed in email form. Why have the contact number?
IDK, for what I bid I'm willing to roll the dice I reckon.
Hoping to get a 466 with OD and AC. That's what Roxy wants. We're selling both our buses and looking for one shorty with the exact setup we want. This bus is close, but I've never considered NY buses due to the likelihood of rust.

Can't say I'm surprised a New Yorker was rude...(I hate it here...) Good luck on the bus. It looks like there's a ton of new postings on GovDeals today shorties included.
I'm going for those Cali crowns to try to avoid the rust up here...it's killer.

I have seen a couple of buses that supposedly had 3060s with mechanical shifters. IIRC: The shifter was marked: (D) D 3 2 1 N R. The 545 & 643's where marked: D 3 2 1 N R.
I was not able to confirm first hand that they were 3060s though.

Go for the single axle with the 855. That's the one I was bidding on. 1986. Thats THE one!
But I can't afford to play the crown game yet.

The 2000s are usually marked R N D 4 2 1,
The 2000 is the most widely used on conventional chassis, though 3000s can be used as well. Chassis rust often looks worse than it is. Unless the frame rails are bad or the ribs are so bad they are soft I don't think of it as being horrible . Though obviously southern busses with nearly none do show up for sale, my thoughts is they are harder to come by with big engines and OD because they are run longer and not in hilly areas so lower engines and 545s are still common.. the older the bus the less likely for OD and Air con though most from Texas and Arizona are AC.
I'd still want pics of any northern bus that you consider paying real money for.
