Yea, I want to see if I can find one locally that I can do a hands on look at. My build is going to be unique. Not that I don't think that a transit bus wouldn't work. The thought of having it an actual 8 feet inside is nice. That extra 6-8 inches makes a big dif when you're trying to squeeze all this stuff in. What I want to know about is the step up difference in the back half of the bus. 2 full size doors is really nice. Wonder if the wheel chair ramp could be moved to the back door. I believe they're wide enough to get a motorcycle through.

Can't say I have ever seen (or heard of) any bus with 8 feet clear on the inside unless it's had a roof raise (?) Anyone else?

Some of the low floor heavy duty transit buses will have headroom approaching 8' in the low floor section. This due in large part to the fact the headroom behind the rear axle is still over 6' of headroom which is all done with a roof with no humps.

No bids yet on the Thomas FE's with 230hp mechanical 5.9 and MD3060.
I think that they are all under 200k miles..

Those are neat. i didn't know you could mate a 3060 to a mechanical engine.

As best I understand it, the MD-3060 can be installed behind a mechanical engine with the addition of a TPS.
I bet Christopher has the definitive answer

The first 3060s did exactly what Steve is talking of.. however no 6th gear unlock on those as nearly no one will touch the WTEC II TCM.. diagnostics is limited, so best to make sure your gearing is good before you buy it.

im not saying its not a good option, but gears are still important.. an overdrive trans with 7.17 gears itsnt goingto be fast.. the guys unlocking 6th are doing it because their busses are often geared where they are at the top of their RPM range.. 5 speed is a perfectly fine option.. in fact I dont even use my 6th gear because it runs my RPM too low till I regear..
but you'll have trouble getting 6th unlocked on the old WTEC II TCMs.. no one wants to touch them.

Final drive is the most important.. how much pavement is pushed by 1 revolution of the engine... if you know that then you can calculate evcerything else..

Yep, that's how I figured out I've got even higher gearing than the bus was built with. Using the #'s I've figured it at 3.42:1!
This bus is kind of a unicorn. 6" lift, low miles, insane highway gears...
