I am a 22 year old student with plans to build a skoolie after graduation and I am wondering if anyone had thoughts on this bus. I have been lurking for some time on here and am interested in what some of the people who have been dealing with skoolies for years thanks.

This is a kind of unusual bus, with the windows and all. The reserve is $4500 which seems a little high.

That bus will sell high. A 25 foot TC1000 with handy lift and factory air, that's the dream for a lot of people.

Agreed, I've already got my eye out for when the county starts retiring their Cummins HDXs. There's a field trip spec'd C2 less than 10 years old that is already going to auction, though I'm uncertain for what reason.

Speaking of keeping an eye out, I've noticed this bus on public surplus. No bids. It looks like it would a good donor of the major AC parts. The rear engine door also looks pretty attractive, would save me the trouble of cutting and drilling for LED lights in mine.

Slightly concerning is that it looks like the check engine light is on.

I'm thinking strip the seats out, remove the AC parts, swap over the engine doors, make the driver's area look better, and sell the bus. With the note to the buyer that the bus apparently has quite a bit of water leakage.

That's a heck of a nice drivetrain for an air conditioner donor bus!

I wonder how ifficult it would be to put that MD3060 in place of an AT545..... talkin' about you, Charlie!

Nice looking bus! I looked at the high gearing (3.54), the I looked up the transmission and I believe it's an AT545. Saw it was a Colorado bus.

I can't imagine what that poor transmission has been put through.

Actually that reserve sounds like a pretty reasonable price for the floor price on that bus.

The Cummins 6BT in that bus is most probably a 180-210 HP version backed by an Allison AT540. With the gearing it has it should be able to do highway speeds very easily but will need to gear down on just about any hill. Going back down the other side will require going down at least one gear lower than what it took to go up in order to get some engine braking.

Don't tempt me, man! That would make my bus into something MONUMENTAL!

Honestly I'm pretty happy with the setup for now. The 545 does suck, but not so bad in a 5 window with high gearing in a flat state.
IF/when it ever gives me too much grief my first choice to replace it would be a 643. My gearing is so high I'd have to swap the chunk if I had OD. Lockup would more than satisfy my lust for a beefy bus transmission. If I were to go crazy I'd swap a 4.44 in the rear and get a built 1000 like Chis has as well as some 11R's.

One thing I am very interested in finding cheap are nicer wheels. Mine aren't the worst but I'd love to upgrade to some nicer steels or some alcoas.

Seems to be one of the most common configurations for HDXs of that vintage. Or at least I haven't seen a HDX yet with something other than a MD3060. If I decide to get it I'll probably ring up the transmission guy to get it unlocked before I sell it. However things aren't exactly lining up all that well for me to make a serious pass at it, mostly timing issues.

What about simulators? Couple hundred bucks for bolt on shinyness. Once I get far enough long I'll look for a set for my bus. Company I work for likes Eagle Flight.

They're alright. I'd rather just have some nice wheels. Plus- simulators cost a lot.

That bus would be snapped up instantly at $3500. I could see someone coughing up ten grand for it, whether it's worth that or not. $35,000 seems pretty unlikely.

The 4x4's are pretty uncommon and usually run 20-30 grand. Its a special market.
I know I'd love to have one like this, but definitely not at 35k.

If you look hard enough you can score a set of used Alcoas for not much more than a set of new stimulators. I got lucky and found a guy that had an entire semi trailer full of them, I got to go in there and pick out the nicest looking ones.

I have never been a fan of stimulators. They look tacky, are hard to clean and can go flying off the rim in certain circumstances. They are also hilariously expensive for what they are ($300 for a bunch of fake plastic chrome, come on )

My bus has a bent rim on the drive axle and will be getting new rubber all around in the near future so I figured now was the time to look.

FWIW. Got a set for under $200, polished stainless steel, bolt on. EZ to find on ebay. Had them for 5 years and they look as new.

It looks like your bus has 19.5 low pros. Full size ones are substantially more (at least in my limited experience).

No one around here uses them because they trap road salt between the stimulator and the steel well and ends up accelerating the rust.

Interesting, my area salts rather heavy to make up for the dumb drivers and I can't say I've seen any wheel rust on any of the buses I work on. Just about everything else on the bus rots tho lol. Maybe the heavy coating of brake dust from hydraulic discs keeps them fresh.

On another note, that '07 HDX with the 8.3l is now going for $10,000

The place selling these does the 4x4 conversions. Not surprised they are asking $35, would be surprised if they get it.
