The price isn't too bad if it is a gas V-8.

If it is a diesel 7.3L it is a really pretty good price.

If it is a diesel 6.0L free would be too much to pay for it.

I couldn't find an hour meter so with that, and also the higher price point I ended up turning it down a few days ago.

Then just today I saw the same vehicle (with same pictures) posted in a different part of the state for $5,000 and being advertised as 6,500 miles (not a typo). Looks like you guys helped me avoid that scam so I appreciate it!

Seeking bus in PNW

Salem, OR

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and to skoolies. I've already found a tone of useful information on here and am grateful to the community.

I've looked at a couple buses already but haven't found the one yet.. my wife and I are expecting our first baby here soon and I've somehow managed to get the green light on a bus purchase that being the case I can't risk getting a mechanical lemon or she'll kill me. I'm not new to engine work but I am to diesels and I understand some components can be pricey.

What I'm looking for in a loose order of priorities; the closer the better (will travel 4 hours or so if I have to), ideally $4-5k, reliable as possible, tires 50% or so, 30'+ length, more head room the better, and diesel would be preferred.

I looked at a couple BB, one had a slipping tranny and the other I was concerned about the heui pump(cat c7 acert). Some metal shavings in the oil/oil on the block and overall bad gut feeling..

Will likely only drive it a few hundred miles a year. May live in it full time. I'm 6'4" so head rooms a +. Planning on a full conversion.

If you read that far I truly appreciate your time, even if you can't be helpful this time around.

Here is a Thomas with a Cummins and luggage compartments. I don't know if it is a high roof model or not.

Here is an ICRE with a DT466 285 HP with luggage compartments and high roof.

Here is an AmTrans RE that isn't yellow with luggage compartments. It is most likely a DT466 with highway gearing.

Not sure how things are there for commercial drivers but here in BC they actually have a class 1 licence for drivers that can only do automatic and I think that's putting a lot of new and inexperienced drivers on the road.

I bought a truck with an automatic transmission last year to replace a manual equipped truck. I had not driven an auto truck in years. I hate it and am selling the auto truck and keeping the manual.

Now I need a 5/6 window with a 6/7 speed syncro tyranny.

I found m high ceiling Bluebird RE with 8.3, MD-3060, 180k miles and baggage bays in Salem Oregon.

State of Oregon Surplus yard is there. Lots of nice buses.

Thanks for the help everyone! Some of those busses in WA are worthy of further consideration. And I have been looking at the state surplus auction sights somewhat before they shut down due to covid. Really hope they open back up soon. All great ideas folks. Much appreciated.

I'd go for an older one without multiplexed wiring and emissions equipment.

This one looks great, but us a little more than I wanted to spend.

2006 Blue Bird Vision. Cat C7, Allison transmission but not sure which one. Only 57k miles on a Southern bus. $14,000. They have other buses that look solid and low miles, but prices are higher than I expected.

Lol, in a good way or bad? I am newer at this and don't know the unicorns from the money pits. I liked the size and miles so I called, but $14k is too high for me especially on a 14 year old bus.

That's too much money and that bus isn't very popular. Its new enough to have all the problems like multiplexed electrical and emissions equipment choking it to death.

Thanks for the info!! I am looking for a small to midsize bus that will be outfitted for roadtrips, not camping or living. It will have upgraded seating for 8-12 plus driver, a toilet and a snack bar with sink, mini-fridge and (most importantly) a coffee maker. The idea is comfortable touring for my wife and I, our 5 kids, and possibly her parents or friends. We would also like it to double as a pull vehicle for a light camper for local-ish trips.

Any thoughts on a good target model? I wasn't going to ask on this thread, but I know you are very knowledgeable!!

I'd look for any 1990-2003 that meets your needs. Look for no rust and a good running engine with good tires.
