The Orion is not a bad bus. They are built pretty stout in order to make the minimum spe'c for a transit operator to get Federal matching funds to purchase them.
The ISM is a good engine with a lot more HP and torque than what you will find in a school bus. It is going to be at least 350 HP.
The Voith transmission is a great transmission if you are a transit agency. Many transit agencies spe'c the Voith instead of the Allison. The downside for anyone who is not a transit agency is it is virtually impossible to get parts and service for one unless you are a transit agency. Personally I do not know of any shop that isn't a transit agency that is able to get parts or will service a Voith.
It hasn't been that long ago someone on this forum purchased a bus with a Voith at an auction. He drove the bus off of the auction lot and the transmission quit about twenty miles later. He ended up walking away from the bus because the cost of repairing the transmission was about 10x what he had paid for the bus. The cost of towing the bus was more than what he had paid for the bus. And to add insult to injury, even after repair, the shop was not willing to give any warranty as to how long the transmission would last.

Great info, thanks a lot! Seems like there's a saying buried in here somewhere... something something, if it seems too good to be true, something something.

Yeah on the first I’m 5 hours away, may send a scout.
The second, isn’t 2004 too young? Thought it best to look for 1998-2093 and 2004 was the year they became too complex mechanically? Just wanna confirm.
I talked to the mechanic at the school where those 7.3s on public sur. came out of. He gave me good info.

If its a 2004 with the 7.3 it isnt' too new. If its an 04 with 6.0 run away.
That first one should be free of cheap. I wouldn't even pay someone's gas money to go look at that heap.

Hey guys I am not sure what you mean by these buses are priced wayyyyyy above what "skooliers" want to pay? We have sold hundreds of these buses and plenty of the buyers are skoolie folks. We even sell some motor coaches to people also looking to live off the grid. We have been in business for a long time. We have a store in Seattle (Northwest Bus Sales) and also our store here in Las Vegas. Sure you can find buses cheaper, as you can with anything, but are they inspecting, repairing and fixing problems before you pick up the bus? some yes but mostly they're not. We are very transparent with our buses and that's what sets us apart from others. We can also sell anyone a bus, rust free, one owner, with a/c, AS-IS- for much less than our website lists, if that's what your pocket book wants. Me personally, I would rather have us go through it and make sure its right BEFORE you pick it up so you don't run into unplanned expensive repair bills that another shop/dealer may charge. I see so many people spend 4-5k on a bus that is, all in all, junk, rusted out floors, engine is leaking all over the place and in reality it needs 2-4k of work done on it to make it right before you start the build. That seems silly to me. Before you build a house to live in you should have a good foundation.

I would not worry in the least about the quote you mentioned.
This site is full of 2 year or less experts on buses.
Sounds like you have a very good business going and respectable so more power to you.
Did you see the bus the person bought that made that quote? I wouldn't be taking any advice from such sources.
John
