I know our schools always had specific busses they used for sports / band / orchestra, etc .. im thinking alot of schools do this.. these busses may have more miles but im thinking like a car, highway miles on a diesel means that bus always got properly warmed up on its trips.. and die to long distances probably had good maintenance..

IMHO, this would be an outstanding candidate for a conversion.

I have basically the same bus as the 96 with the Allison 643 it will go 65 easily and doesn't slow down much on small hills. The newer 3060 is the only thing I wish was different about mine but the older transmission does great moving this rig down the highway as well if you can get it at a good price I wouldn't be afraid of it.

I had one of those in a flatbed truck. I didn't care much for it. Granny low and no OD.

Thanks for your blessing, sir! I've been poring over those 92 photos trying to find a reason not to pull the trigger, and I haven't found it.
Anybody else bidding on the 99? I don't want to snipe anybody, but I'm leaning HARD on SWMBO to get buy-in on this one, no matter how reluctant.
I did arrange a place to store/work. It's grass, it's exposed, it's a pasture, it's an hour 10 from my house, but it's next to a farmer's large Morton building where he parks/fixes his stuff so I can piggyback on electric and air. You takes what you can get in the Big City.

Yeah. I've been watching them since they listed. The '99 is my top target, I'd also take the '96 but it would have to be a lot lower. It needs tires before it hits the road.

After months of looking ... not yet. I'm being picky. I know what I want, and what I want to do to it, and I'll wait. But when the right bus comes along, I'll bid what I want to pay for it. If I lose, I'll wait for the next one.
Both of those Thomases fit the bill, the '99 is closest.

Thanks.
I have a set of "ideal for me" features. When I have to compromise, it's one feature at a time. If I have to compromise two features that I want, it'd better be very cheap and have good tires
Basically:
35-40 foot transit.
RE
Higher Ceiling
Air Brakes
DT466, DT530 or Cummins 8.3
Any transmission except AT545 (MD3060 preferred)
Luggage Space
Any year prior to '04
Some rust is acceptable. Mileage under 250k is no concern. Good tires would be nice.

An 04 would still probably be a good year. Hoping my new 04 is a good one. No EGR or anything else too funky.
