Just a few hours left and all those Olympia buses are still cheap as chips. Crazy!

IDK why this is, but this is where making a buck is easy.
I think it's a phycological thing.. buying a bus labeled "must be removed from __________ , no work may be performed on premises" is daunting if you have to travel several hundred or thousand miles... Where as if you buy it, get it home, and resell it to person b, they have the peace of mind that it made it off the lot. It's the main reason I bought from a dealer (and got a good deal). I had a very limited window to purchase and bring home what I wanted...

It's psychological, the reason they don't want you working or driving on the property is a liability issue. They have no idea if you're qualified to drive a bus or not. They don't do it to hide issues on the bus. Chances are pretty good that if the bus was routinely maintained, and you ask a bunch of questions to the mechanics that worked on it, you'll get a decent bus.

I trust the schools more than I'd trust someone on CL or Ebay.
But everyone's different.

That wasn't the reason that I didn't buy a bus from an auction but I believe that is a reason that some people don't.. I have heard stories of people needing a jump start and the lot won't let them even do that... and I have heard stories of people needing repair work where the lot mechanics help them get it sorted so they could get on the road... I think it's the uncertainty that some people are afraid of

I always ask if I can/should bring batteries. 4 out of 5 bus yards have been cool and helped me get on the road.

I believe that the nightmare stories you hear are few and far between. It follows the same as If you do good work they'll tell 10 friends. if you do bad work you'll tell 100 friends. Any bus sitting 8 months is likely to have a dead battery. The storage lots usually are helpful to the buyers.

A friend up there said they typically have some rust issues but not every area. Hit or miss I reckon.
6 of one half dozen of the other.

If I didn't have a broken ankle (accelerator foot) I'd be bidding.
But then again, I'd be working on my bus...

Just dawned on me that these are mechanical 5.9's.

Anyone here have a "yard stretcher"?

If I had a bigger yard I could fit a couple more buses.....

What did they sell for? For some reason PS is not letting me log in to see closed auctions.

They are as far from you as they can get, but if you can fit it in your budget i would definitely personally check out any bus you're going to spend money on. It might be worth the travel to find you really don't want it for whatever reason that was listed. Southern Calif. buses, smooth be rust free. Good luck in your search.
