We bought one of the dt466e 8 windows from the cy fair auction. We're picking it up Wednesday and are very excited. Since some of you seem to have knowledge of the districts maintenance I thought I'd ask if anyone can recommend a good shop in the area. It's a 16 hour drive to SWFL and would like to have it looked over by an expert before hitting the road.
Also, I'm hoping to be able to just replace the batteries and drive it to a shop but have never replaced batteries on a bus. Anything I need to know?
Any tips for "picking up your bus" would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Always checkmthe suspension on eagles when looking at them, the torsalastic "springs" cost $2000 each and the bus has 6 of them, also look for frame rust

Aren't the torsalastic components unobtanium these days? As in it's the real reason why most of these Silver Eagles are so cheap and most of them haven't moved in 20 years?

Someone is making replacements, one of the big expensive motorhomes uses them, 2 grand apiece, you can retrofit airbags in them on top of the torsalastic housing if they are not to rusty

Onslow County Schools in Jacksonville NC is currently selling some 10+ busses. All are 2000ish thomas mvp's with the cat 3126 and at 545. They're asking $2000 for one or a discount rate for buying multiple

i live around and work in jacksonville,NC and my bus came from them.
they maintain them well and will give you full maitenance records including build sheet and wiring diagrams from the day it was ordered.
bad part is regardless of engine and almost all have the 545. there buses are rear geared to be flat land stop and go buses.
the bus barn people have no problems talking to you and telling what they know about any bus and they are honest about its history.
unless you can get an activity bus out of them then nothing else is a highway cruiser and all of there newer stuff lives at a specialized diesel mechanics shop.
suprised that they are selling right now with at least 10-15 of there new stuff living at the shop weekly.
good luck

Any opinions on these buses? All late 90's, engines are mostly/all 3800 DT466E.

They aren't online as far as I know. They're local to me so I stopped by to chat with them and figured it'd be useful here. A quick Google search should lead you to 'em or pm me and I can put you in contact with them
