Non-affiliated buses for sale - thread
Yeah, it’s plywood or PVC. Mine is plywood and it’s in perfect shape.
On my bus, the stainless is spotless, the aluminum varies from shiny to badly oxidized. Nothing structural though, but some seat brackets had become a puddle of white crud.
The few parts made from steel though, like some brackets… oh my god. Ohio is brutal.
But yeah, with a reman drivetrain? I’d be happy to spend $12-13k on it. It has nice aluminium wheels too, mine doesn’t!

rust is only one issue with Ohio.. Northeast ohio esp the old factory cities of akron / canton have terrible road quality.. potholes, divets, you name it.. it wouldnt surprise me if that bus needs a whole new suspension front and rear... minus airbags which are probably still good or it wouldnt have passed state inspection..

not a bad price at all for that.. a lot of RVers and skoolies tend to stay away from city busses as they feel the computers are too complex .. and some dont like the low floor aspect limiting the amount of equipment you can put underneath..

Yeah, those are pricey. Meant more for a business owner needing to transport people than to sell them to a skoolie buyer. We have a dealer like that in town. Well worn buses patched up legally to hit the road for a person needing a people mover.

It's getting harder to find the pre 04 buses lately, but just got an email from Govdeals. They have a whole bunch of 92-97 BB full length buses on auction right now at $500. In Warner Robins, Ga. No drive train info, so I asked the question. 8.3 with a 643.

Ive been looking nationwide nearly, everything running good/decent under 6k is getting sold within 3 days. Its crazy! I cant believe the demand is this high. Is it normal for buses to sell like this?

It wasn't normal 2.5 years ago when I bought mine, but it seems to be normal now. I no longer regret the $3600 price tag on mine.

Auction buses never sell in 3 days. There are lots of buses on GovDeals right now, nowhere near $6k.

$3500 for mine, $1k more than I wanted to spend, probably couldn't get that deal today. Bought 4 more buses in the next year and didn't pay over $2500 for any of them. They have definitely gone up in the last year, and the pre 04 buses are getting scarce.

Right on. I'll check govdeals out again. Looking for a 6 window fullsize now. Found a t444e/at545 local. I just dont like what i read about it. I'd still go 350 or 454/manual in a heart beat if i could find one anywhere for a fair deal.
I like late 80's early 90' buses. Mostly b/c i want less electronics. i just found a 87 international diesel. $4k! smh. It also has'nt sold yet in a few weeks. Trying to figure out motor/trans on it. I like the body!

a million or so people want something that there's a very finite amount of.
The bus fad is in full bloom... its all "custie" prices now.

Awesome. Whats a real AT540? What years? in what? I was all about gas. Still would if i found a manual. But i just went from no faith to full faith in the older diesels.
So pre 95 the DT466 DT360? were mechanical?
I found a 95 int. 6 window manual lastnight. i assume it'll be "sold" by end of today. 5k. Not sure on motor/exact trans. but i kinda wanna go mechanical and its 1k miles from me. Ima go ask. DT466, i might do it for 4500. id rather spend 4 or less. 83k miles to boot!

The 466 mechanical was actually made up to 98 for some applications. I’ve seen the. In Amtran Genesis front engine busses.
The AT540 was the original “545” it had straight cut gears that were stronger plus they made about 8 different torque converters back then so the rpm band of the engines were better matched .. they were made up till say 83-84 or so when the 542 came out with helical gears and then the 545 and Allison went down to just 2 converters , a gas and a diesel. In the mid 90s when the “E” engines came out with the electric modulator is when the 545 really went to hell as that electric modulator was problematic and also didn’t really properly operate the transmission

Sweet. Preciate the knowledge.
Going to look at a 87 international later i think. or tom. Hope like hell its a good combo. lol.
187k tho.. meh. As long as its not the V8 9.0l diesel, every motor in it was reliable from what i read. IDI 6.9,7.3,DT's. If i see a turbo im going to the bank. haha.
Plus its been sitting for 7 weeks on FB. If i can get it for 3300 (wants 4) it might be the one. Stoked!
