OMG The Prices! CRAZY!

George Gideon Auctioneers

I'm sick looking at these prices from our local auction.
Shits gettin redddiculous!

The first one on the list went for 11 grand! Has 14 thousand + hours and nearly 300,000 miles.
One with "excessive blowby" went for 5 grand!
Then another with "weak transmission" for 8k.

These prices are why I went nearly a thousand miles north for my bus.

Any idea why people are willing to pay so much for them there?

Exporters, mostly, and I'm sure some dealers, too. Some of the Gideon's buses have ended up in DeLand at a crappy lil buy here pay here lot.

Speaking of which- theres a crusty mid-80's Thomas gasser at a lot in Umatilla and they're asking $7500. Its UGLY.

exporters are the biggest... i know the folks at BGA say they drive busses down to the port in lauderdale all the time for export... so BGA buys a bus at auction, exporter calls them.. BGA marks it up and does nothing but drives it to lauderdale.. and makes good coin on it..

I never realized how many busses are exported..

Except those guys only buy dognoses, cause you can work on em on the side of the road. . .

what a cool idea!! Neat to see them get rebuilt and re-used and not just crushed like america seems to do with everything old.

farm season down south... I have been told by several people though that the Tiny-house movement.. and skoolies being featured in a few episodes of the TV show has driven the used Bus market in general up.. for school busses and coaches alike...

it also seems like the trend in recent last couple years is for school levies to fail... even in richer districts.. so perhaps busses are being run till they are ready to fall apart or in fact fail inspection.. so either they arent worth selling, or go to the scrapyard.. and not as many new purchases..

in the midwest here, IC definitely has the market cornered.. and from what I understand the newer IC's have a lot of body issues.. and of course we know of the many engine issues from the mid - late 2000s..(VT-365, Maxxforce 7) those busses are hitting the used market pretty heavily now but often need lots of body and mechanical repairs..

Maybe they have a local "dealer" that leases or loans them the money. The finished buses look like the Jeepneys used in the Philippines. Elaborate decorations, bright colors, lots of chrome, etc.

Those seem like great prices if they ran good.

Yeah you have to keep in mind what the buses start from. Try to buy a brand new bus, zero miles on it. You can replace the entire drivetrain for less than the original asking price. They're just throwing them away at anything less than $5k.
