Re: Problem children?
Gillig and Crown were probably THE best skoolies ever. Crown had partial aluminum body, so were a bit lighter. Both have very similar construction and drive trains. Quite a few of both are still in service in Cal. They both used Cummins 743 and then 855 c.i. mid engines in addition to Detroit 6-71's, probably the most powerful skoolie motors. This one has a 3208, maybe not as good an engine, BUT the RE configuration leaves all that room underneath. The 3208 (636 model) Gilligs have huge under body storage bays. And you could get both with a Roadranger 10 speed!! O.K., I'm a bit biased, since I now have 2 Gillig 636's!!!
