Re: REFLECTIVE STRIPE

Have you tried a heat gun and a plastic scraper? The heat gun should losen the glue on the rear enough to scrape it off.

Re: REFLECTIVE STRIPE

A few things I forgot to add. If you don't have a heat gun, you don't need to go rush out to get one. It will take a lil longer but a hair dryer on high will work just fine. I recently purchased a 1996 F150 that was a local electrical contracting company truck. When they removed their comapny sticker, it left a LOT of glue residue on the doors. Here is what I did:

I took WD40, a hair dryer and Flat Razor retractable (no blade) handle. I removed the blade from the handle, sprayed a lite coating of WD40 on the sticker and hit it with the hair dryer (WATCH the fingers...its HOT) and lightly scraped the glue away. When I finished the one area, I applied another light coat of spray and went at it again. The lubricant assists in the removal of the glue and allows the unit to scrape without getting snagged on the paint. It worked well and was gone in no time. Don't forget to wash the surface once your done to remove the lube residue.

Re: REFLECTIVE STRIPE

I would try the CAPS lock key first. All caps makes posts more difficult to read.

Actually, that is not true. People with very poor vision prefer all caps because it is easier to read. It may not be as pretty, it may not be what you're used to, and it may make you think they're "shouting" at you, but it's not harder to read.

I took a window razor and was able to pull the stripes off and little strips. It did scuff up the paint, but I'm planning on painting the bus anyways. My bus was primed with a gray paint, and then the yellow one over it.

My only problem is I'm left with the sticky residue. From what I've read and seen videos online, WD-40 is the way to go. I've also been told and acetone-based cleaner is very good too. The acetone cleaner is probably best to remove the residual WD-40.

Finally, before we paint the bus, we will be sanding and wiping the whole bus down with either acetone or MEK to remove any dirt or Oils.

I've heard that xylene works good on decal goo. I did it the hard way and rubbed the stuff off.
I wouldn't wipe the bus down with MEK. That stuff kills without PPE. Lacquer thinner is a much cleaner high, though personally I'd degrease with TSP and water.

I tried the heat gun yesterday. The reflective tape came off without much difficulty. So did the paint and primer. When I scraped the tape I went right down to shiny metal.

I am going to try again using WD40 and a bit less heat.

This is what we use on vehicles in the printing business to remove the adhesive residue:
https://www.signwarehouse.com/produc...=rapid+remover

You spray it on, let it sit for a couple of minutes and scrape off with a plastic blade or squeegee.

Squeegee: https://www.signwarehouse.com/produc...lts?q=squeegee
