seat swivel base needed

I will search the junk yards here in Austin for this part, but thought I would post the request here as well. I want to convert my driver's seat into a swiveling captain's chair. So I'm looking for a swivel base, and one that is very low profile, so it does not raise the level of the seat more than necessary. Anyone have one of these they want to part with? Or know where I could find one online for cheap? So far, the ones I've seen online are new and cost like $100. I don't want to spend anywhere near that much.

I have one of these. It seems to be built well enough. I did have it in the Class C but removed it. I might put it in the bus... not sure. Right now, it's sitting in storage, along with everything else.

BTW,It says they need the make model of vehicle but the base is flat. I ordered for a 1977 GMC Mini Motor home (it's a vandura 3500 cahssis) but you might want to cruise thru all the makes in order to find one that will work. Some of my holes did line up with the holes on the base.

Our BlueBird's seat also shifts side-to-side. I'm not sure if we want to change out the pedestal. David likes the original. It needs to be "loosened up" and I don't really know how much it moves and swivels. We do need to refoam and recover the seat. It's in rough shape.

My bus seat is also an air ride, but I want to add a swivel plate to it. Jimmy, does your fedex truck seat swivel?

I wonder how heavy duty those are, and if they would hold up during an accident? If they are designed for boats, I'm thinking they may not be designed for the weight of my bus seat, plus the stresses of an accident. But it is tempting...

Yeah, you make a good point there. I guess the accident thing wasn't really my main concern so much as just general durability. I figure boat seats are much lighter than my air ride bus seat that must weigh more than 50 pounds. And I saw that the swivel is only 6" across, whereas my seat mounting is definitely wider. So by the time I make some sort of adapter bracket, etc., I wonder if another solution would have been better.

But anyway, it's the best lead I've got so far, and I've got several boat dealers in town, so I'm definitely going to keep it on the radar.

I'd be more worried about swiveling while trying to drive.

*edit* I can just see the driver trying to stomp down on the petal and spin around...

I know the swivel from JC Whitney locks in place. It's also very heavy.
