Should I buy this? (35 ft FE in NM)

Having a bus inspected and it may be my project's base!

Anyone have anything I should be worried about with this bus ahead of time.

The specs look good. See if you can get the VIN decoded to see what the final drive is.

That bus has some nice spe'c's and looks to be in pretty good condition.

If the price is right for you I would go for it.

As far as 40ft old school buses go, that is not a bad one if not rusted.
Have you researched all the downsides of a 40ft old school bus?

No A/C ?
Not worth more than $2000, IMO.

First thing, you will want to replace all the heater / engine coolant hoses, unless they were just replaced (they would likely say so in the ad). The alternator and air-compressor (for the brakes) are a crap shoot, and may need replacing soon. Then there are oil leaks that may need addressing in a motor that old, especially if it sits a lot and the gaskets have dried up and shrank in the dry NM heat.

None of this is a deal breaker IMO, just reason not to overpay.

Good luck!

The only think that jumps out to me, being a tall guy, is the the height. It might not be an issue for you depending on your height, or your interest in a roof raise. They do make slightly taller buses, but again, might not be an issue.

As far as 40 school buses go, this one is 5 feet short!

I specifically was hunting for 35 ft as that's the recommended max "RV" size and I know the full 40s would be somewhat limiting.

I'm planning on putting in a mini-stove for heat and go without AC or install a new one anyway.

As for height, I'm planning on a roof raise in all scenarios.

Trying to figure out logistics of getting the bus and transporting to place that will do the raise for me... and so it begins.....

Are you trying to find someone to raise the roof? Why not do it your self?

I'm ok with doing the interior, but I'm more comfortable letting an expert handle the structure itself and the engine.

Where in Nm? What does the seller consider reasonable offers? Overall it sounds like a bus Ruth and I would consider if we were in the market. We have purchased 2 84 passenger busses from the Gilbert School System in Arizona and been very pleased.
The reason that I ask where in Nm is that if it is within a hundred and fifty miles of Deming, Nm, we could be convinced to inspect it for you. We make round trips of 300 or so miles any time we have an excuse and fuel in the tank.

*** Fingers crossed ***

CHEESE_WAGON is "traveling" which means he's been banned for some unknown reason, unfortunately.
