WANTED: Flat Nose Converted School Bus

We are a family of 5 searching for our future fulltime home. We first considered a 5th wheel but quickly realized we would be replacing often if fulltiming. Then we decided on a coach (MCI) and quickly realized repair costs would be tough. Then we spoke to someone and realized that a skoolie may be the way to go. I have some questions....

How long is the longest flat nose to be had?

What is the best engine/tranny to look for?

How wide is the bus?

Since tanks are mounted underneath, how much damage do they receive from road debris?

Where are the a/c's mounted?

Is there underbelly storage?

Should I buy in a state that does not salt their roads?

How easy is it to switch out windows for rv slide windows?

MPG?

I will have plenty more questions but thanks for all your help.

WANTED: FLAT NOSE CONVERTED SCHOOL BU

We are a family of 5 in search of our fulltime home. We have many questions on what we should be looking for.

How long is the longest flat nose bus?

How wide is it?

How big should the engine/tranny be (automatic)? We plan on doing a lot of traveling.

Since the tanks are attached underneath, how much damage is done from road debris?

I am surpised that there aren't many buses that come up when I search. Should I be putting in a specific name or just converted school bus?

I have so much to learn, I hope I can get the answers here.

Thanks for all the help.

Brigid

Re: WANTED: FLAT NOSE CONVERTED SCHOOL BU

on places like CL you just type in bus and maybe narrow the search in to the rv or auto section

if you get a rear engine flat nose bus, you can buy the ones that have the compartments undernieth, so the tanks are very easily mounted.
most school busses are around 7 1/2 feet wide or so. if you want a long one, you can get a 40 foot one like i have.
the year should be as new as you can afford, most engine and transmission units are good, but it is best to get a transmission that is a mt643 or newer ones.
try to get a bus that doesnt have more than 200,000 miles on it with a diesel engine.

Re: WANTED: Flat Nose Converted School Bus

i answered your other post...try not to buy one that has been driven over salt.. always check it undernieth before you buy as you dont want ones that the bolts and so forth are rusty as they are hard to remove...
and you can always send pm to people like me if you want to ask questions over the phone.
