WTB: <1995 ~30ft flat-nose, w/ DT466 + MT643
I've been lurking for more than a year now and just can't seem to find 'the one'. I'm hunting for a +/- 11 window, flat nosed bus with an all-mechanical DT466 and a MT643 trans. Closest I've come in months is this.

Anyone with a bus for sale or leads? Thanks a million.

thomas made a bunch of 8 and 9 row short flat-nose busses in the mid - late 90s.. I see them on bus-dealer sites all the time.. but you'll pay a bunch for those on a dealer site.. seems they commnd a premium for some reason... not sure why..

Maybe because those specs make the perfect bus?
I'll keep my eyes peeled. Thanks!

Try Hartley's in Rugby ND.
Lots of buses, easy to work with.

FWIW, any DT466 younger than about 1995 will have the DT466e electronic engine with the HEUI system.
Other than that minor gotcha, I like your shopping list and will keep an eye out for ya.

Correct, although mechanical engines were making their way into school buses until as late as 1998.
The 96-up NGD's were available with mechanical injection for a while. They can be spotted by their having a mechanical pump but the "e" style intake manifold/valve cover.

That's why I put <1995 in the title but now I realize that it could be read either way. Whoops

If its a 1995, its Mechanical. Manufacturers all switch and different times, and some engines overlapped a lot on years. You've the same engine Ford put in their trucks (Built by International) for years. Good stout v-8 diesel.

You might be right... I may have my Ford wires crossed. I"m thinking of the earlier 7.3 IDI. Made my IH. The t444 I nthink is a Navistar thing. Still 7.3 though. The lines get blurred between auto, industrial, and bus duty for me..

If you wake-up some morning and notice a vacancy in your driveway, my excuse will be it followed me home to show me her P-pump.
Thats a rare beast indeed. Is the chassis a 96 or is it the same year as the body? (Mine is a split-year, apparently a fairly common thing)

the ford 7.3 and the IHC T444E are similar except i think theres differences in the intake manifolds and maybe the turbos.. for some reason i was thinking the ford version doesnt have an intercooler where the IHC does?
some of these engines like the DT-466 were available both ways for awhile.. E and non E..
from this forum i see busses that were up to late 90s as a mechanical DT-466 and yet some mid 90s busses have a DT-466E.. so IHC mustve offered them both ways? unless certain body makers had spare chassis stock they used before going to the E...
then there's the MaxxForce DT... which I think was simply a DT-466E updated to the newer 2007 EPA standards...
most people here are buying pre 2007 busses so we havent really seen any of those here on the forum.

I don't know about the split year. I do know that 1995 was the the year that the DT466E started showing up in California, maybe earlier. I will give you one guess where my bus came from.

Be sure to keep an eye on publicsurplus.com. A lot of schools are retiring buses that are 20 years old. We got basically exactly what you want last year from that auction site in Seattle. You may get lucky and find a school who has not yet retired it.

I've actually just decided to sell my bus, finances and time have not gone the way I was hoping when I started the project. I'm in the Georgia mountains, near Cleveland.
Specs: 38ft AmTran Genesis, DT466 diesel engine with a 545 Allison Trans. Model year is 1996, the last year of the mechanical injection models, so it will work with WVO or BioDiesel. I've removed all the seats, all the windows are still in, but one is broken. It has the emergency door in the back, as well as two on the roof and 4 pop out windows exits. It is all disc brakes, hydraulic, so lower repair cost and less to go wrong. Steering tires will need replacing in the near future, but are good to run on for now. Plenty of under belly storage. Batteries need replacing, they only hold a charge for a couple of days, but it will jump off and runs great. It's been parked in my back yard near trees for the last two years, so it needs a bath, but there is no rust and the paint is good. Asking $3000.00, which is a little less than what I have in it, but it's just taking up space right now. I'll start again when my finances allow.

Let me know what you think, I was going to start listing it, but figured I'd check here first. It's a step below the transmission you listed, but still a great Allison.

Lol we are looking for the same thing, closest I came was a DT466(E?) w AT545 on Govdeals.com near Williamsburg VA. I thought it might come around again, they had four of em.
Also National bus sales had a DT466(E?) w Allison 2000 but I don't see it in the inventory anymore.
Then there is this but its got 305k on the dash:
