wow 13... thats way too sad.
amazed the driver of the white truck was only injured...you wouldve thought that the church bus wouldve came out better but i guess that fiberglass body maybe not?
did i read that right, only one person survived in the bus?

Yeah. They were all old people, so that may have been a factor too. I've seen minor traffic accidents KILL elderly folks. Their bodies just can't take it sometimes.
Very sad story.

Maybe a cell phone was involved? This is exactly the sort of accident that could elevate cell phone use to a drunk driving type of status of that's what happened.

Being on a cell is as distracting as fatigue and alcohol. I can't wait for the elevation - it can't some fast enough.

Sounds like the driver of the truck was at fault. What a horrible accident

Have you noticed that in most bus crashes the bus driver dies? It looks like the driver's area is a crumple zone.

I think Text and drive is illegal in Texas so the truck driver should get hit pretty stiff, the laws on it are pretty heavy in most states esp if you cause an accident.

no according to the news its legal to text and drive in TX.

Was this a young kid driving? Im sure when the guy said the word "son" to him its just a TX thing to refer to another guy. Or was he actually a young kid?

I hate to admit it but ive texted while driving before. Very rarely. I know for a damn fact i wasnt swerving all over the road and there wasnt alcohol involved??

If it were a "kid" that would make sense. I've not met anyone under like 30 that can do ANYTHING at all without their cell phone going full blast the whole time.
Seriously- people are LAME with their cell phones. Not even just young ones.

The CNN article pointed to by thie first post in the thread identifies the driver as "Dillon Young, 20". Yep; a kid.

I am one of those that has my cell phone going all the time.. BUT... there is common sense.. like Text and drive.. common sense says No.. maybe its because im old but ive driven long enough to have the near misses just when I looked down at the dash long enough to try and find a new radio station or diog a CD out of the glove box...

so it came natural to me to not text and drive.. sure I tried it back in the 90s.. but quickly found it wasnt easy to do...

what *IS* easy is hitting a rest area and texting people at that tome to say "hey im late"..

the most common texts , they say, that people do while driving are related to their trip.. many times accidents are had from someone simply trying to text "hey im running late", or "hey traffic sux can you route me"...

I used to use google latitude with my friends when it was ion service.. it was great... I never had to tell anyomne when I was arriving.. they tracked me... we all shared our locations with each other..

Talking on the phone is a little different, however holding the handset is a definite distraction.. using a Headset or a handsfree system cuts the distraction level way down..but even though I'll talk and drive.. theres still times I say "hey traffic is crazy ill call you back"..

texting on a freeway is dumb... texting on a 2 lane state highway is just plain crazy stupid... veer off a bit on the freeway and most times nothing happens... veer off a bit on a 2 lane and oyu either smack the ditch or you go left of center... both of which have really bad outcomes most often..
