Goodyear Recall on RV Tires

Consumer Alert: Goodyear Issues Recall for Select Tires Used on RVs

Nine years after the last one was made, Goodyear has agreed to recall more than 173,000 recreational vehicle tires that the government says can fail and have killed or injured 95 people since 1998.

nhtsa press-releases goodyear-recall rvs-tires

Goodyear is recalling more than 170,000 tires that were produced between 1996 and 2003 and sold for use on trucks and recreational vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that these tires experienced a high rate of failure on RVs when compared to similar tires. Tire failure at highway speeds can lead to serious injury or death.

The recall specifically applies to G159 tires size 275/70R22.5, commonly found on RVs. While these tires are no longer being produced, some RV owners may have the tires on their vehicle, or set aside as a spare, and do not know. NHTSA urges anyone who owns, rents, or uses an RV or truck with 22.5-inch rims to ensure these tires are not in use on their vehicle.

Drivers with impacted tires are encouraged to obtain a free replacement from a Goodyear Commercial Tire and Service Network location or authorized Goodyear commercial truck tire dealer immediately. Visit goodyearrvtires.com or goodyeartrucktires.com to locate the nearest retailer or call 866-353-3847.

Goodyear is offering $500 in exchange for impacted tires that have not been fitted on an RV. Please contact Goodyear Consumer Relations at 800-592-3267 for information on the exchange process.

Wow, some lucky SOB still running 20-year-old tires on their RV is going to be pretty happy about this.

Edit: if I were more devious than I am, I would try to find a set of these and put them on my bus.

Who's going to have 20-year-old tires in stock ready to sell & mount? Would that even be legal? Sure as heck wouldn't be smart.

for out of date tires that are only warrantied for so many miles without proof of purchase of new tires?
maybe you can find something else in the yard that is useful?
a used tire setting in the sun and buried in the dirt?
you can polish a turd but its still a turd.
if its in a junk yard then the good tires are usually pulled before it hits there pick and pull lot.
