Crap like this happens way too often. Things need to change in the US.

I will go no further.

In 1986, when IRCA passed, my wife worked for a large corporation. She was presented with an I-9 form and told that if she didn't provide proper documentation within 30 days she would be fired. BTW: My wife (at the time) was born and raised in California. Blonde hair & blue eyes.

I have never been asked to complete one. Even when I went to work for the government. I have NEVER been asked to verify my ability to work legally in the US.

When this came up in recent conversation I began to wonder what the current law is. I did a bit of research and it appears to me that the law requiring all employers to verify legal work status of all employees (I-9 form) is still in place.

THE LAW IS SIMPLY NOT ENFORCED......

Ok so the bus is owned by a party bus company.. why were they renting a bus out to an illegal with no license?? even to rent a plain old car the rental agency runs your license against a real database that catches Fake ID's and suspended licenses..

wierd a commercial coach would be rented like that.. in ohio you cant even rent a bus without a driver also required..

I get the impression this bus was not rented to an illegal ... it was either rented to someone who was legal (and they had the illegal drive it for them), or it was some company desperate for drivers so they put this fellow in it to drive for them.

Someone's got some 'splaining to do.

someone "Legal" has some splainin to do for sure.. whether it be the bus owner / company or the "legal" it was rented to that tossed the keys to just anyone to drive it..

heck with the way society is these days I dont let anyone drive my School bus... I tell people "you dont know how to drive air brakes and diesel".. that handles most requests i get.. others I just say "insurance wont allow it.."..

I generally don't let *ANYONE* drive my equipment, not even my own family. My Suburban, and bus, both have quirks and personality of their own, and I like to keep a close observation on things so small problems don't become big problems.

The Suburban has a leaky radiator (which I have the replacement), so it loses coolant and will run hot if not watched. It loses like a gallon every 3 months, so fixing it has not been a very high priority.

The bus, well, it's a 30-year-old mechanical diesel, my family is not familiar with driving such a large vehicle.
