Those key fob deals are kinda neat. You could probably clone them if you have the original key, but I don't think you could do it without the key. So unless you have some sort of device that can emulate millions of key signals, I don't think you have to worry.
I've never tried driving without a key fob. I know some vehicles will automatically lock if you leave it running and it loses communication with the fob. That was a 2013 charger that did that. Serviced the car, backed it out and left it running, walked away to get a window sticker, and heard the doors lock. Instant butt pucker moment thinking I just locked the keys in the car only to realize that they were in my chest pocket.
