Allstate in Maine
I reached out to Kelly Newsome and she put me in touch with an agent in NH regarding insuring a bus I am going to purchase.
Figured I'd stop by and give a heads up that the agent told me I'd be required to insure my personal vehicles with Allstate as well and needless to say, the quote for auto was nearly $600 more per year than I currently pay. Not sure when this new requirement came about, but I was under the impression you could get just a policy for your bus/conversion with Allstate, and that doesn't appear to be the case any longer.

That's the case with our insurer, Farm Bureau, as well. And as in your case, the auto coverage was more than we pay with USAA. We just moved our old Tundra snow plow truck to Farm Bureau to meet the requirement and we left our regular drivers on USAA. We looked at the overall cost, not just the Tundra cost, because the total was cheaper for us than other options we'd had (cough...cough...Progressive).

Interesting. I have two personal auto's, but removing one of them from Geico and moving it to Allstate, I lose $150 in discounts under Geico so it negates the benefit of moving my less expensive vehicle to Allstate to get the better rate with them. I like the way you think though, as I had considered that myself. Its really too bad, because they're liability only policy is only $130 for 12 months which is fantastic.
I do have a Progressive quote for $158 every 6 months for liability only which isn't horrendous. Obviously, no way to insure with them if/when I convert, but it does allow me to purchase and bring it home and use it in the interim.

Can you tell Allstate that you don't have any other vehicle?

Little late now, sadly. When the agent called, she basically said we have to do your auto too or we can't sell you a bus policy, so kinda bummed about that.

Not a good idea to lie about something that is so easily contradicted via database query

Some would argue that it's not a good idea to lie about anything. What publicly-accessible database would my car ownership be found in? (Serious question, I don't know)

Well I was just talking practicality, not morality, not my business.
"Public" accessibility is a tricky term. To be safe just assume anything connected to the internet is available to anyone interested.
Industry players have very routine access to a lot more than most people realize
but even non-officially "legally" accessed data is consolidated cross-referenced data mined and available to anyone with money to spend
nobody is effectively enforcing even the very weak privacy protections we do have in the US.
Including live geo-location tracking of your phone.

It is true a lot of vehicle ownership information is shared amongst companies. I've found from time to time when quoting different companies while rate shopping, that they already have my vehicle info. Its all good anyways, Progressive is a little more expensive but they will cover me in the interim. I can worry about conversion when and if that happens.

Just an update for anyone else (at least with Allstate) who runs into this. My agent was able to quote just one of my vehicles in addition to the bus and then was able to "suspend" the liability, leaving only the highest deductible comprehensive coverage on my car (I have other insurance on the car as well) which satisfies the requirement that my auto policy is with them, which allows them to insure the bus. So a solution was reached, and only cost me around $50 extra a year as opposed to the 160 extra it would've cost by going with progressive, which doesn't have any coverage for a bus once its converted. The liability bus coverage ended up costing around $10/mo, or $130 a year give or take which includes towing.
Agents are certainly clever people. I was referred to this agent by Kelly Newsome, and apparently, this agent does a lot of bus/skoolie insurance. She's in New Hampshire.
