You should be able to get a temp tag at the DMV in the state you buy the bus. Here in Iowa you allowed to drive your purchase from the place you buy it to your house without a tag. You put a sign that reads In Transit in the back window and as long you have a dated Bill of Sale and you can prove you driving the direct route home you are fine.
At least in my state buying a vehicle outside of the state is no different than buying one inside the state.
