Cali reg/ insurance help

Hello:

Im starting my Journey Into see if a short bus is doable for me. Current i dont foresee me Registering/insiraning is as an RV. Simply Because I have no plans to have the permanent fixtures sinks toilets plumbing that would be required. As i would just have a camping portabe stove and mostly modular to be moved in an out of the bus. If that can work with Rv reg/insurance then great. But what issues would i run into if I just register it as a non passenger do i need a class b still? Pull all the seats and what not. Just more expensive the rv fees?

Yes, "commercial for personal use".

Can be a lot more expensive.

The conversion stuff can be removed when not needed for inspections.

You’re in CA? Is it diesel? What’s the GVWR ?

Converting title to RV will be the only way to register it if it’s diesel and over 14001 lbs GVWR.

When I first got my bus it was insured with Progressive for some insane amount like $1000/year.
With National General in a more rural area it was around $400/yr and now that I’m in an urban area it’s around 470 I think. That is a “while in conversion” policy. IDK what exactly it’s called.
I suspect when it’s complete it will decrease a little more.

I plan on looking at some chevy 4 window gas busses later this month. How ever the person also has some powerstroke Diesel. How i do like the idea of having a diesel for a heavy Vehicle. I know that the law and maintenance make it not worth it. Most seller i found just seem to be flipping the bus and have no real info on it. So ill be check the GVWR or have them send me the info stick on the bus.

Hey i just picked up an 5 widow w/wheelchair lift 07 duramax Diesel thomas built. Saw you have the same bus. Got any info on how to turn the hazard/school flashing light soild? Jumper? New relay? Id like to use the stock switch Rather then just wire it to a new switch.

In most states, the red and amber lights on top front and rear must be disabled. Paint them over, remove the bulbs/wiring, etc. Those lights are only legal for SCHOOL buses, you can't repurpose them as brake or warning lights.
