Colorado registration simplified

Here is a simple guide on registering your Bus as a Motorhome in CO state.
First and foremost let me tell you something I learned. In CO you aren't just registering as a motorhome, it's a new form of title. You do need certain items of paperwork for it to be accepted.
Paperwork needed:
ORIGINAL TITLE with everything filled out on the back for transfer.
BILL OF SALE - whether from a dealer or individual this is a no brainer.
NOW FOR THE REST OF IT >>>>>
I have included digital images of these documents below.
TITLE APPLICATION - Filled out as normal
CERTIFIED WEIGHT SLIP - We went to a local gravel company and they did ours for $3 and took about 5 minutes in and out.
>>>>>>
CERTIFIED VIN VERIFICATION - DOC# DR 2698 - You can get this from a Police Department or a Car Dealership, Make sure it's the document number listed above or it won't be accepted. We paid $10, make sure they check MOTORHOME on this paper or it is useless. This verifies the vin in the dmv's eyes as a motorhome vin number for their paperwork. We had the original vin verification slip from our dealer but it had BUS checked so we had to go and get a new one. Learn from my experience here.
>>>>>>>>
JOINT TENANCY APPLICATION: This needs to be filled out if you have more than one person on the title. My husband and I filled one of these out so I figured it would be good to add here. He did not need to be present at the DMV with me to register the Bus, I had him sign the paper work anywhere it was needed before I left to the office.
>>>>>>>>
STATEMENT OF FACT - DOC# DR 2444: This is where you make a list of the items that would certify that your bus is now a motorhome. This is the list and let me just say this, while not entirely legal we filled ours out with what we will be putting in the bus even though it's not installed yet. I listed brands and type of appliances and such on ours.
>you need 4 out of the 6 to be accepted
- COOKING: they are looking for a permanent stove or cook top fixture
- REFRIDGERATOR OR ICE BOX
- SELF CONTAINED TOILET:I put "compost toilet with 20g grey water tank"
- HEATING AND OR A/C: do not say you have a wood stove if you do. We put
'diesel air heater' on ours and we were fine.
- POTABLE WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM INCLUDING FAUCET AND SINK
- SEPARATE 110-125V ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY AND OR LP GAS SUPPLY

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION>>>
WE WERE NOT REQUIRED TO DO A EMMISSIONS TEST (our bus is 2001)
THEY DO NOT DO A PHYSICAL INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE
NO SMOG REQUIRMENTS FOR OUR BUS
TELL THEM IT'S ANY COLOR OTHER THAN YELLOW - WE SAID BLACK

The girl I worked with at the dmv was very sweet and easy to work with even though she had never actually done a conversion registration before. We walked out of there with our plates and our title will be in within a month.

So, there you have it, a simple breakdown that you can't mess up. Just don't talk too much, call it a motorhome in the office and hopefully you've understood everything! GOOD LUCK!

So without the actual original title it's truly impossible?

I didn’t say that - when I say original title I mean whatever it is you have from whoever you bought it from, I’m sure they have a way to do salvage titles but I didn’t ask them about it because we didn’t need to.

Thanks for listing that. As I stated - we were not required to do it. - Delta County

I have a question You need to bring the bus to get the VIN Verification so would they see that the bus is not completely converted? And will you need to have the 4 of 6 requirements completed?

Hi there!

I'm getting ready to register my van (as an RV hopefully!) in Colorado, and am searching to see if there are any updates to the process.

I've seen the "4 of 6" things quoted frequently, but I am struggling to find the actual source from Colorado government. All I can find in the 2022 Colorado Revised Statutes is "Noncommercial or recreational vehicle" means a truck, or unladen truck tractor, operated singly or in combination with a trailer or utility trailer or a motor home, which truck, or unladen truck tractor, or motor home is used exclusively for personal pleasure, enjoyment, other recreational purposes, or personal or family transportation of the owner, lessee, or occupant and is not used to transport cargo or passengers for profit, hire, or otherwise to further the purposes of a business or commercial enterprise."

My van build isn't done yet, but since I just moved here I need to re-register anyway...

I saw your photo attached, but can you provide the source that it came from?

Thank you so much for the help!!
