Colorado Shuttle

Hello everyone!

I’m in the Denver metro and am looking at getting a shuttle bus (used).
This would be my first bus and I have no idea how to insure or register it.....what makes my situation unique is that I plan on using it to haul dogs for my business and no human passengers.
Do I register it as a truck? Do I insure it just based on its chassis?

Depends on what you get.. but most shuttles are cut-a-way chassis vans... So the title will be a van title.. not a bus. Easiest thing to do is just keep it registered/insured as a van.

I would say that it is titled as an E450 Cut-A-Way which is a van chassis. You shouldn't have any issues titling and insuring it like any other vehicle. My bus is an E350 based cut-a-way and it is titled as such.. nothing special required. It does depend on the state so I'd call the local DMV and your insurance agent. All you'll need is a vin number.

Interesting.....

The E450 cutaway I bought in 2016 came titled as a school bus. I had to change it to motor home.

The license office here did not give me the option of titling as a van.

It would appear that things vary by state and the OP may want to confirm that info offered here applies in your state.

if you are not going to use is for livery purposes (moving people to and fro) you should be good to insure it as is under your personal, if you want to get it under the umbrella of your business to cover the animals that will travel from time to time, that's another story, all depends on "who legally owns it" (what name/entitle is on the title)

or you could maybe go 5th wheel and say "i have rocking hubcaps"
