Commercial Insurance for Personal vs Motorhome Insurance

Good morning. First time caller, long time listener.

I am likely going to buy a bus this Friday, and I am working on getting the insurance part put together to make sure I am legal driving home. I am getting temp tags from Montana, but the insurance piece I'm a bit hung up on.

From what I have seen, it is generally recommended to get some form of insurance for the drive home. I found a quote for Commercial Vehicle for Personal Use with full coverage for a year at ~$750.

My question is what would stop me from continuing this insurance versus switching it to motorhome insurance? Is there a different benefit to having MH insurance vs commercial?

theres lots of insurance threads here.. do some searching..

but ultimately most MH insurance wont insure your bus while its Unconverted or during build.. and most commercial insurance wont insure your bus once it is converted.. so you may need to switch once you finish your conversion

Thanks. I just hadn't seen anything regarding the reason behind the switch from commercial to MH insurance. But that does make sense.

MH is often much cheaper for insurance.

And can be required for registration, depending on state.

Some contexts, registration type may need to match insurance type?
