Ex wife screwed me and the insurance....

Well folks, life struck hard. Ex left and I have the bus to live in, but without insurance.... State Farm, USAA, and Progressive all said no to me. Anyone have good information on where to find insurance for a skoolie that is already built.
She didn't pay the insurance......
Thanks!

Many folks have had luck with Allstate.
Seems there's a broker somewhere in Florida that can somehow find coverage where others fail. Unfortunately her name escapes me. Maybe Kelley Something?
No doubt others on here will have that missing link, and hook you up with her contact info.

Sorry to hear of your issues, and hope you recover soon.
Good luck, and post up when you find your coverage...

We've used both National General (which advertises in the Bus Conversion Magazine) and Farm Bureau Financial.

Kelly Newsome at Knowles Insurance in Leesburg FL could probably tell you who to call. She's the patron saint of skoolie insurance.

Good luck to you bud! I've been there!

What were the reasons given for turning you down? State Farm is pretty easy going if your driving record isn't trashed.

many companies will grandfather in existing customers, so long as you stay current

once you go into arrears then your policy is void

and you are subject to updated policies just like a new customer

I don't see why they wouldn't just write the new policy in the new name and keep the bus insured by them. Nothing changes expect the new name. Is there a reason the previous company will not insure the new name?
Was the new name on the old policy? If not, why not?

Nothing to do with "names".

Very few companies will insure DIY conversions at all, and Skoolies in particular are very hard. They want categories with a strong dataset population so the underwriting algorithms can crunch the numbers with a greater degree of certainty.

So a company that used to insure skoolies, now no longer does so, will jump at the chance to shed another customer.

Many are also refusing renewals, just declining to cover even existing customers in good standing.

And it very much varies by state, so in this case OP just needs to do their legwork, just like anyone just starting out.

It's called work. I'm a retired teacher and I drive a semi truck. It's hard to know what is going on when I am out on the road for three weeks at a time....... Back for five hours, then gone again..... Now I have four days off and I'm getting to the bottom of the chaos.

kelly newsome is the agent... BUT iirc, allstate will not insure fulltimer. she made sure i wasn't going to live in it for her records.

I've got State Farm and even doing a new policy on our conversion, they had very few questions to get it done. Find a new agent and if there are questions about the lack of payment on the previous account, talk to them about it. SF is pretty easy going especially if you let them know whats going on (in person sometimes better).

What reason were you given by the existing company for not covering you?
