Got My Notice From The City

They're saying I can't have a bus in my driveway. Odd as there are several in the city.
I really hate this town now, and am going to go to city hall tomorrow.
Land of the free my ass!

The county told me the same thing. I told them it's not a bus, it's an RV. It's titled and registered as an RV. I checked the code before I brought it home, and it is legal to park an RV beside or in front of my home on a hardened surface (such as a driveway). The officer said it doesn't look like an RV, and I explained I'm working on that... he was really nice about it and offered to try to work with me - visible progress on the conversion would be adequate. That was 3 weeks ago and no further word, so fingers crossed. I hope you got an officer who will work with you to find a solution!

nah, the city are run by a mafia-like set of realtors. They want my property and have been aggressively trying to get me for code violations.
Chris has been to my house- does it seem like a "nuisance property"?
I think not.
Going to take a cruise and write down addresses of heavy duty vehicles in my neighborhood to take with me to city hall tomorrow.
The bastards!

I think you'll find that a 6' sight obscuring fence around your bus, regardless of the height of the bus, will bypass whatever city code they're trying to enforce.

Just a guess from 20 years of fighting city code.

my HOA sent me a nasty gram last year.. so i did exactly that I maerked down every single "commercial" vehicle in the subdivision.. (technically anythiung commercial shouldbt be parked if not actively working)... when I even marked down the state trooper's Charger.. and all the HVAC / security contractors that live there and bring their vans home, they backed WAY OFF...

Classic dual standards. Selectively enforced rules, just for you.

I had about seven vehicles in my yard while living in town. I'll admit I was way over the line considering it was a 50'x100' lot. I'd been buying and reselling auction vehicles to make ends meet while raising the kids. They made me move all the vehicles the week before Christmas.

I got to know the code guy pretty good after he'd been there 8 or 10 times. I'm not insinuating anything here. He told me that 70% of the time it was guys own wives that were calling code enforcement. It was true in my case.

That's gonna be our first battle tactic. Possibly a long, bus shaped barn type shed...

Ever since a real estate co with ties to city hall started buying all the houses on my street, that's when the problems began.
Small towns are so corrupt it makes my head spin to think about big cities and corruption!

Gonna find out if a fence will satisfy them, and if so I'll be using my Lowes card and spending sunday putting up a fence.

It doesn't have to have a roof, but that sure would help in strong weather.

Selective enforcement. They'll say "Well, you're the only one that got a complaint." That was their argument for only enforcing the code violation on me.

Like Christopher said, you'll have to go around and write down addresses and vehicle plate numbers of other neighbors in violation but not being harassed by code enforcement.

That must be a real feeling of power to work for Code Enforcement.

A lot of jurisdictions do not allow privacy fencing between house and the street.

Yes, usually you are only allowed a 3' or 4' fence in the front of your house. About 15' back from the front property line you can usually go up to 6', or higher with a permit.

Get the code number that they claim your violating.
Then look it up on municode.com
There is almost always a loophole way around what your accused of.

I was told I can keep it in my back yard - but I see county school buses parked in peoples driveways - front yards... They do like to pick and choose...

Here ya go...put up that 6' fence and paint a big bright yellow school bus on it.

It could always be worse... You could be feuding with your neighbors!

Saw this out driving one day between a couple $400,000 homes

Well... they do frown on shooting the neighbors dog these days.

There's only so many legal ways a guy can express himself.

I'd check to see how high of a fence you can install (6 or 8') and then get some fill dirt and raise up the ground a couple of feet as well and then install it.

Definitely go around and take pictures of other violators in the area too so you're not singled out. Having them at city hall will help you out hopefully.
