You can certainly try calling them and make sure they 1) received it, and 2) there are no issues with it.

This thread is so polluted (yeah, I said that! I'm a hater... ) with insurance questions that it's hard to follow the useful info...

But I recall others here saying VT didn't mail their paperwork back to them and just sat on it because a form or BOS was missing...
I felt really lucky that someone wrote me a letter explaining what I'd "done wrong" (tax amt) and needed to fix...

My experience was that Vt. is prompt in returning incomplete paperwork. I put a lesser value on my app than the BOS showed. They didn't askfor the BOS up front. Sent paperwork back with request for BOS, sent all that back when they noticed the discrepancy in the sale price requesting the balance. All went through smoothly, even after my screw ups.

I finally called them about 10 minutes ago. I was on hold and never got through. But while I was waiting I checked my statement online and they cashed the check today. I had to get back to work so I never talk to anybody at the DMV. But I'm guessing it's on his way now.

Woot frikken woot.

Just finished reading all 64 pages of this tattered thread. Jeez, people!
Thanks, Warewolff, for starting the thread and keeping things updated. We’ll be sending ours out in the next week, purely for the time buffer it will give us. Like the green plates, too.

Derka posted, in June of this year, asking about registering a bus they were buying from Northwest Bus Sales in Federal Way, Washington, so they could drive it to Colorado. We were at their lot in September, and they offered to get the school bus we were looking at registered as a motorhome as part of the sale, for an extra $2,000. They said they would pull out the seats, add a portapotty, camp stove, and bed, and cover all of the school bus markings. We ended up buying from a private dealer, but for someone trying to get moving quick with 2k to spare, it sounds like a decent option.
On the other hand, 2k could buy a whole bus, right?

SNIP...
Right?!
Super painful...

This is such a valuable thread --
Perhaps a moderator
Janet H
Site Team

could be enticed to go through the thread and move all the insurance comments to a separate thread called "random insurance questions".

The other non-related comments in the thread could just be deleted...

Janet H. I would donate craft beer or even cash money for the time required to clean up this thread.

Mods already have enough work.

Any member with enough interest in the topic can parse the thread, extract a canonical summary to a new one.

To keep it canonical and short, ask that it be stickied and locked, or with just one editor if possible.

Point to a "new start" discussion thread titled

VT **Registration** Only

no insurance discussion allowed.

Then this one can be locked and in time will sink away.

Yes ... this forum is not nearly as on topic as many other boards and I perceived this as possibly being a problem one day. To rectify this, site admin has allowed me to edit first post indefinitely. As far as I am aware, everything is still up to date ... there should be no need to read through 65 pages of comments. If you think the guide is missing something or find outdated information, kindly leave a comment and I'll update the post to reflect that. I think that is probably the best we'll do for now. I have made a point not to respond to insurance related questions or banter ... this is not the place for that.

Maybe add this explicitly to that opening blurb

I sent my forms in on October 28th. Yesterday, Nov 22, my plates arrived in the mail! I expect the title to arrive next week. I know they send them separately. That was far easier then I had expected! This forum and the lovely skoolie community helped alot. Thanks everyone 🤗
My insurance broker is currently searching out a good policy for me. I called last week and told him my plates and motorhome title were on the way. Time to find a new thread for all that jazz.
I'll update and let yall know when the title comes.

Warewolff -- again, so much thanks for starting this thread!

Consider Incorporating the two ideas quoted above and adding that VT will not accept a taxable amt of less than $500 or (in other words) pay at least $30 dollars in taxes -- Vermont doesn't mention this on their website...

I have a question. I live in TX. Let's say I purchase a bus in AZ. I need to drive it home. I can mail in the registration to VT to make it a MH but I have to wait weeks to get the registration (and I would guess the plates to go with it). How do I legally drive it, before I get the plates and registration from VT, home to TX? I can't get a temp plate from TX as they require the vehicle to be inspected prior to getting a temp plate of any type.

Check your local laws on how long you have to register a new purchase. In the state of Ga. I can use the BOS as my registration for 30 days as long as I'm insured.
Check out the selling state for a temp tag. Having proper insurance and a reasonable story on waiting for the plates to come usually will get you an easy outcome. Unless you drive like a dick.

So I think we found our answer for TX. In TX you can get a One Trip permit.
Not subject to vehicle inspection to get the permit.

https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/regi...porary-permits

Some of the wording on the website leaves me with questions as to whether this is valid for vehicles purchased outside TX but coming into TX and whether we can drive it on the highways or must stick to "surface roads" and exactly what does TX consider to be a "highway." I will check with local DPS office (aka RMV in other states) and try to get back to y'all.

appears I would have to buy the permit locally. hmmm... doesn't really work if I am out of state to buy a vehicle. wonder if someone buys it here for me and can email it to me??? another question to ask.

I'll mention it again, this is a legal gray area. In most cases your signed title and proof of insurance is all you will need in the 1/1000 chance you get pulled over driving like a responsible person. It is a no issue, rarely has anyone been pulled over in a bus with no tags, and more rare that they left with a citation. Drive it home.

It was almost two weeks after I got my plate that the title came through. I mailed my paperwork Oct 28, recieved the plate Nov 22, and the title Dec 9th. I was expecting it to prominently say Motorhome on it, but the only place it "says" motorhome is: body/hull MH. But I suppose that works. Thanks again to the creator of this thread and all those who posted and helped me figure this out.

This link is very helpful! At the bottom though, it says all used vehicles being registered for the first time from out of state (not bought through a licensed dealer) needs to complete the VIN Verification form. Did you all do this? I haven't read through ALL of the comments but haven't seen it mentioned.

Also, in section 5, do I list exactly as the title says and put "BU" for body type, even thought I put "motorhome (19)" in section 4?

I am probably overthinking that one but may as well ask ;)

I believe they don't require it if it is older than 15 years.
